Lost Save after restarting pc

Steps to reproduce

After playing I saved & exited my Don't Starve, then I shut down my computer. The next morning I launched Don't Starve and there was no continue button.

Describe your issue

The world and research remained. This is the 3rd time I lost my save after getting very far. I didn't die I just lost it unfairly. I disabled steam cloud synchronization, loaded a new save, restarting my computer and the save was gone again. I love this game but I can't bear to play it like this.
