Rare or Mythical Locations

I was thinking how cool it would be if you were wandering along and happened upon named locations that rarely spawned in maps. I think it could inject another measure of replayability and certainly make exploration a bit more rewarding. Maybe they would be only cosmetic (which would be just fine), but I think it would also be cool if they enabled a slightly different style of play. Anyway, I've got a few ideas.

The Abyss

So you're wandering along and BAM! A giant, infinite, black hole into nothingness. Lights are dimmer and if you activate the abyss you stare into it for a long, long time. I have no idea what game impact this could or should have, but even just being there and looking awesome would be enough.

Mer Cove

A bay in the sea with a small island in the middle. You can occasionally catch glimpses of mer people flitting through the water. You can fish in the waters, but from time to time you'll be assaulted by LAND SHARKS!

Storm Plains

A place where it almost always storms and thunders. Plants grow a little faster but you have to watch out for tornadoes which can strike day or night and will hurt you and destroy any permanent structure they hit.

Lost City

An ancient, ruined city. Tons of places to excavate for treasure, but you steadily lose sanity for being inside. Plus, ghosts aren't the worst things haunting the night.

It is a good idea, I like Mer Cove; and the idea about storm plains. Plants grow really fast, but you gotta watch out for tornadoes. That's great; but there'd be no way to really do anything agaisnt it. Possibly an option about adding supporting to your buildings and stuff like that? That'd be great.

Well, the idea would be that you're making a decision. In the case of the Storm Plains, you're choosing between short-term gain (faster crops, berries, grass, twigs, trees) and long-term stability. Maybe it would be cost-effective to build the lower tier farm plots there since you're going to lose them at some point. I don't know exactly how it would all play out, but I don't think any of these locations should ever be a reason for a whole new mechanic in the tech tree.

Yeah, I see. How about they would ruin your crops and the farm, and you'd get the choice to rebuild it with a few resources that you used to make the object? I think that's better.

Interesting idea. Perhaps a dark fog that functions as a permanent night in the area, so you need light-source gears to enter and explore. Sanity Meter reduction area.

Mer Cove

Merfolk can be a nice addon, but might be considered a little overused. Seems to exist in many MMORPGs. That's not to say this is bad, but probably a different sea-side camping entity.

Floating Houses (Stilt House) can probably function as a structure entity for the sea-side folks, even if it's on land.

In fact, why at the sea-side at all? Maybe they can be located in Swamps!

Storm Plains

A place where it almost always storms and thunders. Plants grow a little faster but you have to watch out for tornadoes which can strike day or night and will hurt you and destroy any permanent structure they hit.

Good-old decision making situation. As a player, I wouldn't go for this, at least in the current state of the game (too easy to survive).

However, in a long run, this may actually become an option. People kept asking for Storyline, for Lore... This can become a sort of arbitrary difficulty biome, from a story progression standpoint.

Lost City

An ancient, ruined city. Tons of places to excavate for treasure, but you steadily lose sanity for being inside. Plus, ghosts aren't the worst things haunting the night.

Came up a few times before as well. Always welcoming. Mostly aesthetics, so I think this will likely to take a back seat for now.

4) Lost City

1) Im not so sure how this could fit into the game unless it brings you into another world and you can go back and forth between the two which I would love

2) I really like the land shark ideas haha, and maybe when fishing you could get rare treasure and research it

3) That'd be a very fun challange to try and survive in that kind of biome

4) Love this idea and maybe they could make them underground aswell that'd be sweet
