Truffles
So I have to turn my entire computer off to insure I keep my Save or just the Don't Starve'd game? I so hope this works I've been craving Don't Starve and haven't been able to play consistently because of this bug.Sincerely,Truffles
Toaster Fu
Just don't starve. He's just saying that if you want to turn your computer off it should be fine.
Truffles
It says I have to close Don't Starve before Steam can close. =/ Is there anything else I can try?Sincerely,Truffles
saganlearning
Here's my variant on the issue... I'm playing through Steam, not synced to the cloud. (There are a few of us sharing one Steam account in order to play games like Don't Starve offline, and we didn't want one of us to delete the other's progress, so everyone plays this one unsynced.) I've lost games a few times:~ When my computer blue-screened (Steam may have been open; Don't Starve was not).~ About the same time as the most recent update.~ In the last twenty-four hours. Windows Updater auto-restarted on me. (Again, Steam was open but DS was not.)Good luck fixing this!
ghosthamburger
I play Don't Starve inOffline modeOn Steam, and my game doesn't save.I lived for 30 days once, and tried to play again, and my game was gone. This kind of makes the game not worth playing, honestly.

RetroGamer2000
This happened to me too, i really hope it doesn't happen to me when i get really far into the game that would really suck :(And the fact that everyone is getting this problem too really worries me, hopefully this problem gets fixed if it is a problem that is. Developer Wade Posted January 15, 2013 Developer Share Posted January 15, 2013 We've added new changes to allow the User to play without Steam Cloud in the latest update for Steam. Hopefully this will address some of the save issues people are having. For Chrome, please make sure you are not deleting your cache files, as that will also delete your saved games. Tarani
Can you tell me where the new saves will be put in the cloud-less option? Seems I may need to move mine over, as putting that option in the ini acts like I've never played the game. (I have my saves backed up to another folder because of earlier Steam errors.) Vincent
I thought it was supposed to be like this! A strange new level of single sitting "Hardcore" gaming.

(I have my saves backed up to another folder because of earlier Steam errors.)For me, with the new cloud-less option, the new saves are in:My Documents > Klei > DoNotStarve > saveIt's been working well for me, btw! Before this fix, I tried all of the suggestions (like disabling Steam Cloud for the game in Steam itself), but I'd always lose my progress once I closed Steam and started it again later on. Now with the new option, it works! I can continue my game now! Edited January 16, 2013 by Miranda
Developer Kevin Posted January 16, 2013 Developer Share Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks for your patience with the steam cloud stuff. As I said, I was following the steam cloud directions, and it was supposed to handle offline stuff automagically! :)Anyway, make sure you let us know if anything strange happens with the "no cloud" version. Snob
For Chrome, please make sure you are not deleting your cache files, as that will also delete your saved games. Can someone please explain how to get some backup files, and such for chrome?I'm slightly confused, I've never really came across this type of coding before..Sorry, I'm not very familiar with the Chrome, and I have no idea where the cache files are located..So my main question: How can I prevent myself from deleting cache files, and is there a way to make backup files if I accidentally delete my saved files? Steps are truly, REALLY appreciated.Thank you.

You can maybe find the file(s) yourself, in the chrome file.Somebody tell him the path please, as i don't know it.
False Security
EDIT: Sorry did not see the ini file text on the update. I've done that and hopefully it will work. ryry117
This is why I use Steam...It sounds to me from what others are saying and your post that you're not dealing with coding, just a simple file change. Play Minecraft? if so, you'd be a pro at it XD
saganlearning
Hey, all.I don't have the time/emotional energy to reread this thread, but we just got two updates (one for bug fixes and one for new content, as far as I can tell), and I'm still losing my games.Playing through Steam, cloud saving disabled. I just closed the game because I was having lag issues, went offline on Steam, and then IMMEDIATELY reopened Don't Starve. No saved game, and no XP for the 30+ days I survived... burnedfx
I use steam. Our progress was lost.I disabled cloud using the INI file. This fixed the progress loss. BUT . . .With two accounts on steam (on the same computer), both accounts read the same save file.Edit: To subscribe. Did you disable steam cloud from within steam settings? If so you need to do this:Some people have reported problems with steam cloud. We have added a workaround that will cause the game to save its files in your documents directory instead. To activate this mode, add the following two lines to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\settings. ini file:[sTEAM]DISABLECLOUD = true
asgar
i disabled the steam cloud for steam -> didnt work....then i tried to disable it especially for the game -> didnt work too...It was weird that steam made a cloud sync. when closing it, even though i disabled it ? o.OI tried to reinstall direct x and the other thing, which was described in one of the posts of this thread...I'm using the game on a Win 7 64 bit system, and use my steam from germany adjusted on german language (if this makes a difference )EDIT: i will try the change you described to save the game on the pc (cause it didnt do that since now) i will test it when i'm back home (i am at work now ) Edited January 24, 2013 by asgar
kaiwolff
UGH, it caught up with me again. It was behaving just fine for ~2 weeks, so I thought this wasn't happening anymore. Now I open it today and my 41-day file is gone. I was saving that too, for the devs to work on the bee mine issue :(I have now edited the steam settings .ini to disable steam cloud. Will see how that goes... sigh.
