kikikitten
Having this same issue and tried all the suggestions in two threads, save game is working only on one computer.I play this on home computer and occasionally work, play in steam, had the Cloud enabled. Home computer is having no troubles at all with the continue, but work computer has lost all games. Basically, if I do not exit from steam, my games are intact. The moment I exit from steam, they are completely gone. I launch my game via steam at work computer in offline mode. I have a truly saved game at home and one I have to restart every time I come on at work.Run down of what I tried: 1. Tried verification and reinstall.2. Someone said finding C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\save and then unchecking read-only helped, I do not even have that folder anywhere. If I uncheck read-only from the entire Don't Starve folder, it rechecks itself (I am admin of my computer).3. Cloud Sync on AND off, both in steam and the game individually, multiple times with the combinations. When I turned on Cloud for both Steam and game, I was given a notification about files not synching (did not happen before), I clicked to download, and found I had a continue game. This game ended up being the save game at my home computer, and not the save game I had at work. However, this only happened once, and messing with the settings again after trying to keep another saved game did not result in the prompt again.4. DID try multiple times the 'follow steps to resolve', it worked sometimes for a few days and then my continue was gone, yet again.Basically, what I gather from my constant fiddling, opening the game in offline mode breaks the continued, even if it was working fine a few days before. I can't tell why it won't retain the saved game and why it does sometimes, all I know is that I've restarted the work computer game about ten times now and that's the problem I see everyone has but isn't fixed still. I haven't played it at home for a while, most of my downtime where I actually want to play is at work.

Tarani
I've had the same problem with saves disappearing on Steam, I usually keep the cloud disabled because it tends to go a bit wacky with most of my games.
Nancy Botwin
I have also had the same issue....continued my game and I was at the starting point
Tefeiri
Hi there!I've been having the same issue, and the solutions in the posts above didn't solve the problem. So I ran a few tests to help out.If i run Steam, I get a new game, but no continue option, my savegame seems lost.So I play a few, then exit Don't Starve. If I exit Steam, I'll get this bug again, which means no savegame, and the obligation to restart the whole thing. If I do NOT exit Steam, it seems I can continue to play on my save.So I guess it's a problem with steam maybe. But still, it's annoying to not be able to make a progression in this game... Toaster Fu
Welcome, welcome and welcome! The Devs said it seems to be a problem with steam cloud (it seems to happen to other games too). They are going to put in a different way to save in an update on January the 15th that should fix the problem.Chrome on the other hand I'm not sure. Up until a few days ago chrome saves were just fine.
bigj
The Devs said it seems to be a problem with steam cloud (it seems to happen to other games too).I don't use cloud and it still doesn't let me continue from where I left off.
_jas
Try disabling Steam Cloud for Don't Starve. I have heard that it fixes it, but I have not tested it myself since I do not want to lose my save file. If you need instructions finding that option, then:1. Open Steam2. Click on the "Games" tab3. Click on View Games Library4. Find and Rightclick Don't Starve5. Click Properties6.Click the "Updates" tab7. Uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for Don't Starve"Hope this helped you! thnx ! it helped me to save , at least once ...nevertheless , next time i shut down PC the progress was lost ...to solve this , before shutting down the PC, close steam so it syncs.after that you should be able to continue the game if you restart.hope it helps ;Dedit: anyway it will be cool that it autosyncs on exit or something like that Edited January 9, 2013 by _jas autosync comment
Toaster Fu
I don't use cloud and it still doesn't let me continue from where I left off.The Devs know about this too and sadly, you're going to have to wait until the 15th.
Truffles
This just happened to me sadly, I had the Cloud Save already turned off because I hate the Syncing it has to do. Does Chrome have the same problem, if not I'll just play no Chrome till the 15th.Sincerely,Truffles

osadat
Do exactly this:-Open Steam (by double clicking icon)-Make sure Steam Cloud Synchronization is enabled (to do this click "steam" in upper left hand corner, -> settings -> Downloads+Cloud [tab] -> check box that says "enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it" Once enabled click "ok")-Open Don't Starve (You can "x" out steam if you wish)-Load new save (if you don't currently have one)-When done playing "esc" -> "save & exit"-Exit Don't Starve after saving game-Go back to steam (Open if not already opened) Click "steam" in upper left hand corner, -> Exit-Wait for cloud to sync.Steam should then close and you will be safe to shut down your computer and Save should retain.
