thekian
Bug SubmissionPlease choose a category [Graphics] PlatformSteamVersion Number 70528 Issue title Graphics Error Although I Have Met Requirements Steps to reproduce 1. Go to Steam Library2. Click Play Game Describe your issue After first clicked "Play Game" all the setp up stuff happened and it all went smoothly! Then in the Don't Starve window it is a black screen and starts playing music. Then it shows a Graphics Error and says "Error processing render buffer command InitializeTexture."I was able to play the demo on Google Chrome until today and my graphics meet the minimum requirements. I don't understand why this is happening. This was a birthday gift on Steam

SliveDraver
I also have this problem. Log (not the big, heavy, and wood kind!) and DxDiag are included. Please don't laugh at my puny little netbook's specs. To be honest, I was surprised I could even run the game! I played for about 10 hours yesterday (Dec. 12) after purchasing. After finally exiting, I saw that an update was available. After downloading, I get the same error message and can't play.Starting upDon't Starve: 70535Build Date: 2012-12-12_21-05-29THREAD - started 'GAClient' (5824)HttpClient::ClientThread::Main()cGame::InitializeOnMainThreadWindowManager::InitializeWM_SIZEWindowManager::SetFullscreen(0, 1024, 768, 60)WM_SIZE SIZE_RESTOREDSystemEvent::Resize {1040, 806}WindowManager::Resize [0] {1040, 806}WM_SIZE SIZE_RESTOREDSystemEvent::Resize {1024, 768}WindowManager::Resize [0] {1024, 768}SystemEvent::Resize {1024, 768}WindowManager::Resize [0] {1024, 768}cDontStarveGame :: DoGameSpecificInitialize()cGame::StartPlayingLOADING LUADoLuaFile data/scripts/main.luaDoLuaFile loading buffer data/scripts/main.luac:\jenkins\workspace\jobs\DontStarve_Release_Make_Steam_Package\workspace\data\scripts\main.lua(105,1) running main.luaLOADING LUA SUCCESSReset() returningERROR: HWTexture :: DeserializeTexture failed on tent--atlas-0.tex. glGetError returned 0x501Error processing render buffer command InitializeTextureHttpClient::ClientThread::Main() completeShutting downDxDiag file: [ATTACH]811[/ATTACH]Thanks for all the hard work. Developer Kevin Posted December 14, 2012 Developer Share Posted December 14, 2012 Hey kazinsser and SliveDraver. We did a bit of research on your graphics cards, and I'm sad to tell you that neither of them are powerful enough to run the game. The reason that you were able to play before is that the game itself was a bit smaller (in terms of loaded textures). We just crossed the 128mb boundary, and some people who were *just* able to play before unfortunately aren't able to any more.Sorry about that! Do you have access any other computers that you can try the game on?
SliveDraver
Not me! Guess I'll finally have to start saving up for a new rig.As a side note, the suggestion in the "Dec 12 Hotfix" thread,As a temporary workaround, if you edit or create ~\steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\settings.ini you can now add an option to the [graphics] section called "use_small_textures=true".allowed me to get to the start screen and actually start a new game. Not only that, but the game runs much faster! I realize it's only a temporary workaround, but I'll still get to participate in beta testing until my video card REALLY can't handle the game any more.I figured it was something like that. I know I'm not playing on the greatest of machines; it took me about 20 seconds just to cut one tree down, and YouTube videos I saw from other people were MUCH faster.Glad we know what the culprit is! Now, off to play as much as I can for the time I have left!
Developer Kevin Posted December 14, 2012 Developer Share Posted December 14, 2012 Ahh, Slive - yeah, that workaround will work... for a while. It basically just loads not-as-nice version of our ever-more-numerous textures. So it may stop working again with any update.Just out of curiosity - what kind of frame rate are you seeing? I'm guessing it's not 60...
SliveDraver
How would I be able to tell? I don't think it's 60, either, but the use_small_textures fix has the game running much faster than before. Before, it would take a solid 20-30 seconds to chop down a tree. Now, it takes significantly less time.
tomlinkon
I am not seeing a [graphics] section in my settings.inikevin ~ I really love this game and I really want to play it. I haven't been able too since the new update which sucks. Isn't there a way you could customize the settings and graphics on the same so people with low-end computers can still play the game? Hopefully by the time that it stops working I'll have gotten a better computer.Anyway, thanks for the timely reply and good job making an awesome game! jack1best
The workaround above use_small_textures worked for me (for now). I would like to know what the problem is though. How do I find the DXDIAG.txt file. Also I have an Intel G31/G33 Chipset Graphics card. Does anyone know if that will work for this game.
jack1best
Ok, here is my DXDIAG.txt file. Like I said it now works with the workaround above, but like to know if my setup setup should work. Thanks for any help.DxDiag.txt
