This is a place for people to make posts related to Hero in the Dark. You can throw questions to the team from this thread, go off topic, joke around etc Just make sure to be nice and polite ;)

Okay, I just downloaded the alpha, removed all my other mods, loaded up a fresh game.....uh, nothing seems to be happening. Standard Wilson, standard Maxwell monologue, standard flowers, standard me murdering a butterfly.....did I do something wrong?

 

I extracted the two zip files together, threw the mod folder in Dont_Starve/mods, enabled the mod, started up a fresh game file, and....*fart noise*

 

Help?

Try to force enable it and show your log.

I'm fairly sure the mod is enabled, due to what reads out in the console:

 

scripts/mods.lua(264,1) Mod : HerointheDark (Hero in the Dark) Registering Prefab file: prefabs/necromancer 

scripts/mods.lua(268,1) Mod : HerointheDark (Hero in the Dark) necromancer

 

So on, so forth.

Then the mod should be up, do you have the extra characters? (not all are up yet being alpha and all, but you should see barb, pally and druid at the end of the list - or to the left of wilson when you start the game?)

 

Maxwell being up at the beginning is ok, he's still there, we haven't done anything to him (yet), so are normal biomes. What is up are new characters, some mobs and changes in combat system/certain game behaviors etc, the dungeon entrance is next to goblin spawn points, one should be decently close to your start point.

Okay, I see what it was now. I was sticking with Wilson when I should've picked one of the custom characters.

Yeah it adds stuff at the very end - behind maxwell, too easy to miss imo. But I'm not sure the order is changeable on our side at all

It's only accessible to the custom characters, by the look of it. The boss bar doesn't show up when you pick Wilson.

 

Not boss, xp bar :p but yeah. It is not added to default chars, the mod will be balanced around our custom toons really.

Also, on my end, there's a bit of text that is off-screen. Might just be my crap monitor though.

 

On the character selection screen, last line of abilities list is a bit out of the black box, I'll have to make those fonts smaller some point. But off screen? I'd need a screen shot, nothing's offscreen for me there or ingame... nowhere close to screen edge in fact. Which resolution? Should not matter since it's supposed to scale but still, for the sake of testing.

This is a Windows XP problem likely. It's a problem with the base game that gets exacerbated with some of the assets in HitD. Screen res is capped at 800x600, no fullscreen.

 

Hm, I'll check tomorrow, I actually do have an XP box lying around, assuming I can get it to run.

KidneyBeanBoy, there's a few typos in your stuff. Grateful, not greatful. Also, Research, not reserch.

1: Thanks for getting that for me.

2: That's intentional, as reasearch is no longer implemented and that was for reasearch_small

EDIT: I also fixed the multi line stuff.
