Hello dupes and dupettes, I have a question for you.

As we all know, vacuum in ONI is, while pretty useful, also pretty boring. A vacuumed out space lacks those visual effects typical of an environment filled with gas, which IMHO are one of the most appealing graphical features of the game.

So I ask you if it's possible to make holographic gases, or fake gases.

These gases would be a cosmetic thing, appropriately placed in the research tree and with a barely (or not quite) reasonable resource cost, as any vanity project does.

Here I write how those gases should behave:

  • They look almost like the real gas when in the world, with some added particles. Maybe radiation or other effects, since they are supposedly holographic, or magic. They are visualized differently while contained in pipes.
  • They have absolutely no thermal interaction with anything, much like neutronium. They don't transfer heat in any way, have no heat capacity and are spawned at a fixed temperature, let's say 20/26.9 degrees C, or N/D temperature. So they don't follow any "convection" mechanics and just spread until pressure reaches equilibrium.
  • Even if they have a fixed temperature and some mass, they behave like vacuum for anything that requires an atmosphere, like the majority of plants, thus preventing their growth. They can't freeze nor cook dupes, nor any entity.
  • They get instantly destroyed by any other gas trying to occupy their space, much like vacuum, while they can't destroy or displace any gas when coming out of a vent, in this particular case they get deleted.
  • They are produced in... the molecular forge I guess? Or some building with gas output. I mean, their only use is to prettify your base, while offering no in-game advantages. Maybe a small decor bonus for being in a holographic gas tile.
  • If the mod ever breaks, they are replaced by standard, boring vacuum upon loading.

I ask you if anything I wrote is possible. It would also be a great way to void resources in excess, but that's not my intent and I can't think of a way to prevent it. Thanks.. and cya!
