Critters and pets should be more useful

I like the idea of 'Critters,' 'Smallbird,' and 'Extra-Adorable Lavae' as companions, but in the game, they seem like just a waste of time and resources. Currently, 'Beefalos' are the only companions worth investing in. I believe that each 'Critter' could have some passive ability, even if subtle, like a 3% reduction in hunger or sanity when they're fed. 'Smallbirds' could grow faster, and 'Extra-Adorable Lavae' could become a smaller version of the dragonfly.

I also think that some of these ideas could apply only to 'Walter,' since he has a closer connection with animals and, IN MY OPINION, he is currently the weakest character in the game.
