Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted April 14 (edited) The Johto Section is finally done. Spoiler I enter Victory Road, swapping out the gerbil for kekgator as I needed strength. I ran into Dits towards the end of victory road, he brought dragon types this time, big mistake for them! DragonRage made quick work, though I swapped to Mine for his Umbreon. I made it to Indigo Plateau, I bought some supplies from the shop and headed to fight the Elite Four. ...Although I forget to swap out Kekgator for the Gerbil, so I had to make due without my grass pokemon. Elite Four Will had fighting types ironically, when he normally has psychic types, my friend and I had a chuckle out of this one. Mine mopped all of them up. Elite Four Kohga was... Actually Vanilla! At least in type! His pokemon were different, having two Gengars, but his pokemon were all poison types. Mine's new move "Brave Bird" has proven itself useful, despite the recoil damage, it's pretty consistent with oneshotting everything even with neutral damage. Elite Four Bruno copied the gym leader Chuck, bringing a roster of fire types, HappyFeet made quick work of all of them. I was late on the screenshot for Elite Four Karen, but she had dark types, so like Kohga, she was also vanilla! and finally, I fight Champion Lance! Who decided to mimic the first gym leader apparently, bringing rock types, so HappyFeet made that easy. ...and now I've made it to the hall of fame! Sadly the gerbil didn't end up in the hall of fame due to me forgetting to switch out Kekgator. and now for the whole hall of fame roster! Oh... and Kekgator too I guess, haha. Kekgator ends up in the hall of fame by doing absolutely nothing. ...and with that, the Johto chapter is over! I played up through the whole ship sequence and entered Kanto now, I fought a bunch of trainers and got some levels, haven't tackled any of the Kanto gyms yet, but I like the remastered Kanto music for the wild pokemon and trainer battles! Current team after the session. ...I wonder how much more grinding I'll have to do... Edited April 14 by Terra B Welch
GetNerfedOn 8876 Report post Posted April 14 You'll probably have to grind until your late seventies for the endgame, which is Red's team, but i haven't experienced it, take it with a grain of salt. Spoiler A nice suggestion for future runs would be to use Ludwig's nuzlocke rule, wherein he uses infinite Rare Candies and Vitamins so you can have fun and build your teams as you want them, instead of having to grind so much. in a game full of lengthy periods of playtime HGSS are the longest games in the series period and imo its so much more engaging to just level and spec as much as you want instead of having to grind hours upon hours on end

I also hope the rando gives me a spot with wild luvdiscs at some point so I can get some heart scales, I need my staraptor(mine) to relearn close combat. Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted April 24 (edited) Kanto progress! Spoiler I spent my time going where I could just to fight as many trainers as I could to get EXP, most the battles were generally boring but a couple to note... This very ANGRY Level 65 cement... err... Dewgong. And this double battle that was literally just a Pikachu and Raichu. I eventually completed the kanto power plant part of the game and got a card for the kanto radio, which let me awaken the snorlax in front of diglet cave which allowed me to reach the western half of Kanto. I went down to pallet town and visted the lab, because why not. I then went up to Pewter City and beat the gym, Brock decided to imitate Misty by having all water types. Mori and the Gerbil did most the work, but Mine had to come in and finish off a stubborn ludicolo using close combat, yes my staraptor has that now, I found a spot to farm heart scales. Current party now, and yes, I'll be going through the Kanto gyms in their Gen 1 order, so Misty is next! Kanto has been pretty tough, with the first gym already almost catching up to my grinding levelwise, sheesh. Here's to hoping it'll go a little smoother from here on out, if not I'll just have to find a spot to grind some more. Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted May 1 A bunch of Kanto progress! Six gyms down! Spoiler Progressing from Pewter City, I took out Dits in Mt. Moon, the final time I'll be bothering with him. Proceeding onward with gym mopups. Misty had steel types, ThreeCats did most the work, though Mine came in for a few close combats on some. Lt. Surge had ghost types, I guess all his electric types died. Mori with his new Light Ball had no trouble oneshotting all of them! Erika had fighting types, Mine had a field day with brave bird with a side of aerial ace. Janine had flying types, Mori gets more time in the spotlight! Sabrina exchanged her psychic types for ground types apparently, yet happyfeet struggled on her tyranitar, Mine had to come in with close combat to finish it off. Blaine had electric types, my garchomp, who has had it's name changed now, had fun digging all their graves with dig. Hehe. That's it for now! I want to check out the seafoam isles and finish up any kanto trainers I missed before tackling blue, I know after blue I'll want to level grind a bit. My current team, and badge progress. One final note, the doggie paddling houndooms of route 40 migrated to vermillion city!!! Spoiler
Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted May 2 The journey is close to an end. Spoiler To start things off, with the gym done, I decided to explore the rest of the seafoam islands, at the core of the islands, was Mewtwo in Articuno's spot. After enough persistance and many ultra balls, I managed to catch it! After that, I went to Veridian City and tackled the final gym! The final gym was Ice types! That means grass was the only type to not have a gym. ThreeCats did most the work, although Mori came in to take out any Water/Ice multiypes(basically Walreins) With access to the Cerulean Cave, I entered to see what vanilla mewtwo randomized into. Apparently the randomizer thought Cerulean Cave was the perfect spot to place the pokemon equivalent of God. This guy outleveled all my pokemon! Level 70! This was SO WORTH using the master ball! I named it after my friend's reaction words haha. Regardless, here I am, at Mt. Silver... All that's left is Red. All badges acquired, but I don't feel like my party is ready for Red yet... So I guess one final grind session, the longest one in the run, is in order. Hopefully this thread doesn't archive during the time I spend grinding.
Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted May 5 Mori has come so far. There's still grinding needed for the rest of the crew, but Mori has trained enough, he's at least ready for Red, and my Shaymin isn't far from being done too.
Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted May 13 The final grind is finished, hopefully next update on the playthrough will be the finale. Here is my final team, most of them have come so far.
Terra B Welch 9340 Report post Posted May 14 It's over, it's finally over. The journey has come to an end. Spoiler After my final grind was finished, I ascended Mt. Silver, destined to fight the most powerful pokemon trainer, the one known as Red. I made my way through all of the caves, and reached the summit where he stood. I double checked my team to make sure I was ready! I challenged Red, and the battle begins. His first Pokemon was a level 88 Cradily! Even at level 97 Mori had a tough time with it, I swapped to HappyFeet to kill it with Blizzard, as thanks to Mt. Silver's hail, it always hit. Next up with a level 84 Wormadam, who HappyFeet also dispatched with Blizzard. Up next was a level 82 Abomasnow, I brought out ThreeCats to torch it with Flamethrower. Then a Level 84 Cacturne, it was also burnt up by flamethrower. The second to last mon was a level 80 Parasect, I brought out Mine for some time in the spotlight, he dispatched it with Brave Bird. and lastly a second Parasect, at level 84, Xeno was brought out for screentime, and managed to defeat it. and that was it, the battle was won, I have defeated Red in this randomizer, it was fun! but all good things must come to an end. FIN Oh, and here's some postgame shenanigans I did for the next two hours. Spoiler After besting Red and sitting through the credits, I did some postgame shenanigans of mainly picking up items I missed, namely stuff locked behind Rock Climb. But I did visit professor oak, and he gave me a Jolteon. I found Zapados next to the power plant, it was randomized into heatran, a couple iron tails, a thunder wave and a heavy ball later, and it was mine. I also went and visited Dits in the Dragon's Den. We got confronted by Lance and Claire, and I was forced to carry Dits through his battle, funny that Dits had a Raichu in this fight. ...and that's all, to be honest I feel proper done with this rando seed for now, I want to try and set up the "DST Boss Challenge" playthrough of HG/SS rando, I made a thread on it a few days ago, so I want to work towards that. Huge thanks to everyone who kept watching this thread just to see how this playthrough went! (Namely @GetNerfedOn) 1

Spoiler The rare candy thing works if you don't overlevel your mons; if you use that strat i'll remind that it's also vital to give yourself infinite vitamins too given that you won't be able to gain EVs if leveling with Rare Candy.
