Issue: Steam Version Not Working for You

Recommended Posts

networked    10
Hi networked. Can you try the "glcrash" steam branch? Instructions can be found here:

http://forums.kleientertainment.com/showthread.php?1314-Issue-Steam-Version-Not-Working-for-You&p=12727&viewfull=1#post12727

I'm having similar issues to cnkandrew's experience. There is a lot of mouse lag in the Steam version which does not show up in the Chrome version. It makes gathering things quickly and movement in combat much more difficult. The mouse cursor feels like it's moving through jello. The cursor isn't jerky, just very slow. It takes a few seconds for the cursor to catch up to where you are actually pointing the mouse.

I'm glad to see the game can now load with the 8.15.10.2253 drivers though. Please let me know if I can provide any more info or feedback.

Still not working.

Intel GMA4500M

I also could not get the game to work on my laptop that has a Intel GMA4500M.

I reinstalled and updated drivers, I also tried the beta workaround. The best result was a second of the opening music before crashing in the beta. Otherwise I get the OpenGL error or the screen closes without ever displaying anything.

Wow,

I haven't touched the game in a day or two, but apparently whatever changes you made to the GL-beta version made a difference. When opening the game I noticed the "this is a test" message, and the "Creating world" window that pops up in the browser popped up--this has never happened for the steam version before. Then the game popped up! With colors other than black!

It looks like it works fine, but I will mess with it later.

Issue: Game on Steam run fine in the main menu, but once you get into the actual gameplay it seems to play at half the speed, almost like it is in slo-motion.

Platform: Steam

Operating System: Tried on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 Pro 64bit (Both fresh installs with all recommended updates.)

Processor: Intel Core i5 CPU M450 @ 2.40GHz

RAM: 4.00GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 310M (Both latest drivers and beta drivers tried)

Here is my pastebin of my game running, once I get into the game i wait and manually close out.

http://pastebin.com/YMhAjyFK

Hope this issue gets fixed Soon!

Game does not open

Steps to reproduce

1. Click 'Play' on Steam version.

2. Either a window opens with nothing in it then immediately closes, or nothing happens and my steam profile goes from green back to the default blue.

Describe your issue

I recently bought Don't Starve, which I've heard is a great game. Unfortunately, I can't even get the game to open.

Here's some information about my computer:

-Running Windows XP Professional

- Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

-A NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics chip (can't seem to update any of the drivers for it, doesn't allow me to)

Is there any more information that could help you guys try and fix this problem? Hope it'll get fixed so I can play this, looks fun.

Thanks!

Here is another interesting story.

I wasnt able to play on my i5 intel hd graphics laptop, the game would just close. But with the opengl beta i managed to play lag free.

Now when i uninstalled the latest hp driver and manage to bypass and install the latest driver it started on the normal version without closing, however the lag is horrendous. So i guess it only works on the special bea of a beta version

For those with an integrated intel graphics card who are being affected by this issue and able to play the chrome version, please fill out the form here providing the email address you used to play the chrome version and your steam id.

You MUST have previously played the chrome demo.

Hey. Thanks for supporting the test builds. Will this problem be fixed in the future so the normal version of the game will work. I don't really want my data reset all the time.

Great! I tried out the opengl beta and the game worked perfectly! Thank you very much! The only problems that I experienced from the beginning was that it seemed as though the graphics were very poor/not many colours but every part playable and very enjoyable! I had being playing the game until day 7 where the game completely crashed and screen went black, other than a glitched image of the waves. The sounds were still playing and when I hit 'esc' they stopped like they would when you usually enter the pause screen.

So my point; the beta works! :D But crashes :(

I seem to have some issue closing the game. Game runs fine and appears to close normally when I exit from the menu. But when I try to launch Don't Starve again from the desktop shortcut, it tells me the application is already running. If I try to exit Steam from the system tray I get "Waiting for Don't Starve to shut down..." followed by "Please close Don't Starve before exiting Steam". Have to restart the computer to fix. Not sure if this is an issue with Don't Starve or just my computer or Steam.

[EDIT] PS. Sorry if this is in the wrong place... wasn't sure whether to make a new thread or not

Game closes (without error message) on startup

Steps to reproduce

1. Press the "Play" button on Steam.

Describe your issue

I just bought Don't Starve off Steam and installed it. When I try to run the game, I briefly see a completely white window pop up. It stays visible for a second or two and then closes. This seems to be the game trying (and failing) to start up. I've hit the "Play" button on Steam about 8 times with the same result every time. Verifying integrity the game cache didn't have any effect.

I also tried running the game by navigating to dontstarve_steam.exe in my Steam install directory and running that, but it has the same effect.

Here's a trimmed down dxdiag (to meet the 12000 character limit) in case it helps.

Same here. Doesn't even want to start up. I checked the files for download integrity (basically to see that they downloaded correctly) and everything on that end seems fine. Just wont run.

Edit: The Demo did work fine if that matters in relation to the steam version. and also a few Specs.

I had the same bug. I realized I had no speakers/headphones plugged in, which makes my system act like it has no sound card installed, and has caused some of my other software to freak out. Plugged in some speakers and the game works.

For those with an integrated intel graphics card who are being affected by this issue and able to play the chrome version, please fill out the form here providing the email address you used to play the chrome version and your steam id.

You MUST have previously played the chrome demo.

Regarding the Intel graphics issue, I submitted the form on Friday (also, my bug report is here) and again a few days later and I've yet to receive a reply. Has anyone read it yet?

They just got back in the office today and there were some nasty bugs that they had to track down, so I'd just wait a couple days.

The GLdev build on steam worked on my intel chipset! I did notice that right clicking does not drain durability from tools. (Maybe intentional since right click actions are slow?)

Describe your issue

A few days ago the game worked fine and I played for about 10 hours on steam but recently when I clicked on the 'play' button the error message "an error occured while starting Don't Starve (connection timeout)" I have not had this issue with any other game. In an attempt to fix the issue I deleted the game files and tried to redownload and install but when I press the button a similar message is displayed. "an error occured while installing Don't Starve (connection timeout)".

I have windows 7 home premium

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor, 2800 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)

AMD Radeon HD 6670

My game was running slow and I saw that my drivers might be the problem, and yes, they were out of date, so I updated them.

Now the game immediately crashes when I start a game.

I have the same problem as everyone else, and essentially the same machine stats - I can run the Chrome demo, but my Steam-purchased game opens a white window and immediately closes.
