Fixed Anim Cancelling

Recommended Posts

The New Update for Beta called "Forgotten Knowledge Update!" brought so many new and cool content, but one bug fix embarrassed me:

  • Fixed a bug allowing players to attack much faster than intended.

I am not a big fan of survival, but this fix related to a mod called "ReForged". I am one of the speedrunners and this fix would crash our time like in the Forge 2018. This should reduce our time by half because you won't click at all. I attach a video, where I enabled the Chinese client mod to show you how fast attack speed is. I just could wish, that Klei will NOT bring this bug fix in the standard DST.

The only issue with the bug fix being related to a mod that's not even about mod functionality makes this seem like not really their problem. Just make a mod that adds the bug back in.

Couldn't the mod-makers just patch it back in if they wanted to?

they used this script:

-- Revert kleis attack canceling fix
AddComponentPostInit("projectile", function(self, inst)
    self._ondelaycancel = function() --[[disabled]] end
end)

The glorious day when people complain about devs fixing bug-exploits...

The one Chinese dude made the mod that allows you to attack much faster than intended. If Klei wanted to do, they would have made this fix long ago.

Its a bug

Just make time records with a regular dps??

anim cancelling is not an exploit or bug. It exists in many games, and is often even an intended gameplay mechanic to reward players who do things manually.

If they fixed it then isnt suppose to work like that.

Here exist to cancel animation to make fight easier like hitting at the sametime that you can equip can and run but for adding dps is just a game breaking

Okay? What's the problem then?

Yes. That's what the fix is for. It does not matter how long they took to fix it.

To clarify some things, animation canceling can still result in a faster attack speed, it's just not as fast as it was before, if a mod ever wants to revert these changes all they would need to do is set the players Attack Period back to 0.1, or even just set it to 0.0, I have already informed the creators of ReForged that they could make this change if they so wanted to revert it.

The fact they're removing it as a bug fix seems to show it wasn't intended gameplay. there'll be a mod to change this, don't worry about it.

The fact someone or a certain group of people used game exploits/bugs (certified as such by the fact devs addressed mentioned issue and corrected it) to have an unfair advantage over the rest isn't an excuse for others to do the same - if healthy competition is at heart. Best case: you report the perceived bug in appropriate forum section (DST Bug Tracker) and make more forum threads/posts to rise awareness if fairness across the board is your aim. Otherwise you do like the rest: use the bug/exploit knowing what you do is unfair but its advantage being way more alluring than any moral viewpoint, and move on when is addressed/corrected. Making a forum topic demanding mentioned exploit/bug be reinstated because offers (unfair) advantages is, frankly, a laughable course of action. And a later fix is better than no fix at all. It also may be the fact some new mini-game (similar to Forge) might be made in future where animation-cancel bug could be further used, diluting the game experience, and devs finally decided to address said exploit now.

Lastly is quite well-know on KLei forums (and Reddit) by now top players in Forge and Gorge pseudo-tournaments cheated bountiful, using not only vanilla animation-canceling, but also made particular mods that basically instructed them when to do every micro-action to minimize times, signaling every cool-down to teams, auto-canceling, and even exploiting the out-of-boarder bug to the point it was a competition between code-diggers for whom found and used more bugs - another statement to why DST should never be competitive in any capacity.

In the end you got your particular solution you point at yourself: Re-Forge mods reverted the fix with an update of their own, so now you can continue your fun exploit endeavor. Yeey gaming! Cheers!
