All Reworks have been exclusive to DST, the Reworks are mostly focused around better Teamwork abilities.. something you don’t really NEED in Solo DS. I also wouldn’t want to see Solo DS changed too much- DST is finally being treated as the Sequel it should’ve been.. It even continues the story where DS Solo left off.. so it’s Canon to be a Sequel. Sequels have new content that separate them apart from the original game. Consider character refreshes part of that Sequel. DS Solo is still a challenge game with a campaign- so like for example if Woodie could suddenly turn into a Weremoose or Worse a Weregoose in Solo DS it would be a game breaking change. Goose Woodie is super good for quickly scouting the map and rushing to Lunar Island. Moose Woodie I guess is supposed to do something but.. I haven’t found great use for it yet. And Werebeaver is Werebeaver... he needs no introduction. The ONLY thing I’m disappointed with in Woodies Refresh is how Lucy plays no part of it, used to chopping woodie would trigger the Werecurse, now you chop wood and Lucy won’t shut the heck up. Spoiler Because how they "fixed" him was just...it was such a non-sequitur! Like, a straight 90-degree angle turn from ANYthing anybody had actually suggested or asked for. (Well, maybe SOMEbody asked for a Moose or Goose form, but not that I'm aware of...) Pretty much all anybody ever asked was, "Can Werebeaver please not suck as much? Maybe?" (Yes there were those who liked it how it was. They were a minority. Most of us were sick of eating trees and going nuts constantly. Not everyone is the "YOU _SHOULD_ BE INSANE ALL THE TIME IN DON'T STARVE BECAUSE HARDCORE ENDGAME STRATS!" type...) I, (and I KNOW I'm not alone), wanted at least SOME tiny taste of backstory, and for just the werebeaver form to be unbroken. To be less of a chore to play. To be _fun_ to play but still have challenge and balance. (Really all _I_ ever wanted was his singleplayer self back, but we can't have that...) Instead we got HAPPY SILLY FUNTIME! They wanted to make a fun, lighthearted, colourful short to get some new-player butts in the virtual seats...and unfortunately Woodie's short is what was scheduled for that time. I mean, the art style doesn't even match up! The line weights and colour saturation look all different! I was weaving some vignettes one day, because I like them, and then stopped when I hit the one that shows Woodie at the campfire with the treeguard's head, because it _didn't fit in visually_ with the other vignettes. And I've got stuff from events from YEARS ago I'm still using. (Such as Forge Version 1.0.) It just..it wasn't even vaguely CLOSE to anything anybody had actually asked for. It wasn't even the OPPOSITE of it. It was a hard left turn!. Woodie is a potentially dark and complex character with a BIG honkin' mystery or three in his background, and this was probably _his only chance ever_ to get an animated short about just him. And what do we get? Instead of the story-heavy stuff from Winona and Willow or the emotionally-telling Warly short, we get LOONEY-TUNES STYLE BATTLE WITH A TREE! WHEEEEE! Both the short AND the actual gameplay changes were wasted opportunity. And while they _might_ redo his playstyle into something more original-Woodieish-but-not-annoying later, they'll do it without fanfare probably, and after at least a year. Or two. Woodie's refresh should have been _so much more_. AND, so much less. Do I like the old version of him in DST before the refresh, better than the current one? No, I DON'T! I liked his _original_ self when the Werebeaver was TOUGH! (The amount of armour difference was enough to get Stumpt Price killed repeatedly, because Jas was thinking of the ORIGINAL Werebeaver and gave Price advice pertaining to _that_... So yes, it was a significant difference.) I just want. A fun. Werebeaver. Not these silly other forms. Is that so much to ask. And maybe for his short to have just ONE little frame with a shadow in it that's shaped like a thing that the lore-diggers can use to try and piece together guesses and innuendos about Lucy. JUST ONE FRAME! would've been _something_... We'll now probably NEVER get either of those things, because each character is only getting _one_ refresh and animated short, and those were it. Wendy is like THE character whose refresh-short should not even be _close_ in tone to that. That's what I mean by "let's not have another Woodie". That would be cool I guess... but then there’s no balance between needing to craft the different types of Idols to do the different things. I guess if Klei wanted to the could add DST Refreshed Characters & DS Solo Characters so you can be old DS Solo Woodie.. But honestly I’d rather just have more world content and not bother with reworking Woodie again. The console version of DST is extremely lacking in Biome Variety, New mobs, The Gorge and Forge Mods.. etc.. what console players need more than anything is more biomes, creatures, craftables, seasons, and challenging content. Other games like Ark Survival Evolved take Player created PC mods and make that content available to Console gamers as Free DLC- Such as the upcoming Map Crystal Isles. I quite literally see no reason why Klei can’t pick some of the most popular PC mods from PC and turn those into actual content for us lesser console gamers to enjoy. But at least Wendy’s Refresh is 1 Day and a few short hours away...... and I can Rejoice in Abigail no longer suiciding herself into Swamp Tentacle. Nonono...it never even occured to me that the Werebeaver would be able to swim and run fast. I just wanted it to have its armour back, so you're not as much of a wimp in Werebeaver form. Also for the curse part to still be there, but not as hair-trigger to set off/for you to not need to eat quite as much wood, or for it to not take away so much sanity. Any one of the above three would've been an improvement. I never wanted EXTRA abilities; I just wanted the other form Woodie already had to not suck quite as much. And I know they're not gonna redo Woodie again, which is why I'm sad. That was the one chance and that's what we got. Further updates are going to have to do with completely other things of course, as they should, but... I AM stoked for Abigail to not get stuck on tentacles all the time though. : P See, THAT'S an example of a "just fix/lessen the main actual problem" kind of change. THAT'S a make-the-werebeaver-suck-less kind of refresh. Which I guess would leave Werebeaver form useful for mining Rocks (can’t really say Wood.. cause Lucy Axe already does a pretty decent job at that!) And Weregoose form was meant for quickly running away from danger and to go over water. As someone who absolutely loves WALANI and campaigns hard to have her added to the game, people tend to think Weregoose does Walani’s job for her better than Walani could have done it herself. When he never should had in the first place! #WaterSpecialist. We also don’t know how MUCH Wendy was changed.. or how powerful “Ectoherbology” Is- If it’s a game changing thing we absolutely need.. then Wendy mains will be spending a lot of time strolling through Graveyards communing with Pipspook in exchange for Mourning Glory. I guess we will find out Tomorrow!!! But from my perspective all the Reworks so far have added fun new abilities and functionality to already existing characters. Woodie is good at fighting as Moose, chopping wood With Lucy, scouting the map as Goose, & mining rock as Beaver. Willow can summon Bernie to absolutely WRECK Shadow Monsters & farm Nightmare fuel, start and stand in forest fires to regain sanity, Cook food using her portable lighter without ever needing to build a campfire. My point is the Reworks haven’t been centered around making these characters any more or any less OP. They’ve been to simply flesh them out- making each one unique and engaging to play as. I personally think he’s one of the more fun characters. Wendy’s is more minimalistic it seems—so the die hard fans will be fine. I think in this case, a less drastic refresh is fine, but I actually quite enjoy the idea of a complete 180 like Woodie’s. Like I think Maxwell for example could benefit from some more sweeping changes. I believe Axelocke made a great post of some ideas that were a big step in the right direction and really different.
