I always like to think that for Webber's backstory, he got eaten by the spider in the real world and got discriminated for being "colored" it's dark, but god damnit I'd love it.

Not love webber being discriminated, I mean the darkness of that idea.

Nobody has listed the Singleplayer characters yet, so I guess I'll be the first one to take a crack at 'em.

Wagstaff: Having his scientific research permanently halted, and/or losing access to the Constant.

Walani: Forever losing access to the ocean. (Honestly grabbing straws here)

Wilbur: Is a monkey.

Woodlegs: Being forever trapped on land, or worse, in a volcano. Again.

Wilba: Being stuck in the darkness in a foreign land, far from home.

Wheeler: I... don't know. What even IS Wheeler's personality?

I think that Wilson's greatest fear would be insanity. It's implied that nightmare fuel is literally the stuff of nightmares, and it's perceived differently by each person to be more frightening to them. Wilson's reaction to nightmare fuel is "this stuff is crazy!" And I think that losing control of his mind, as a scientist and an intellectual, would really be terrifying for him. As it would be for most people, but I think that he might dread losing his mind in particular, more than other people would.

In contrast, I think that Maxwell's greatest fear might be getting stuck back on the nightmare throne again, or being imprisoned or trapped in any way. Losing his mind is something that he not only doesn't have to worry about as much, but it might not frighten him as much as the idea of being trapped again. Alternately, his greatest fear might be that other people will find out about his true past as William Carter, which he obviously wants to keep secret, since he still goes by "Maxwell."

Imagine if everybody got stuck in, a room full of nightmares and illusions that would become their fears and they would need to conquer their fears to escape and find others.

Wilson: Having to accept his failiure as a scientist, or having to accept that science can't explain everything in the world given the former would likely never cross his mind.

Willow: Waking up back at the orphanage finding it all to have been a dream.

Wofgang: Everything, but also possibly the thought that he could wake up back in the war and find it all to have been a dream.

Wendy: The thought that one day she'll accept that Abigail is gone and stop grieving, inevitably leading to Abigail's memory being lost forever.

WX-78: Termination.

Wickerbottom: Old age.

Woodie: The idea that he could go Werebeaver and never turn back, causing him to lose his mind and who he was forever.

Wes: "..."

Maxwell: Never being able to get everyone home, and the thought that the other survivors could subsequently kill him upon finding out he can't.

Webber: Never going home to his family.

Webber: Having to go home to his family.

Wigfrid: The final act.

Winona: Discovering Charlie is really beyond redemption.

Warly: Maman Angeline passing away alone and confused without him.

Wortox: Becoming a demon that sucks the souls out of the once liv- oh wait...

Wormwood: Losing all his friends and being alone again.

EDIT: A few more for the single-player characters that I know the speech files of well.

Wagstaff: Losing connection or general access to The Constant, keeping him from ever fulfilling his "destiny".

Wilba: Having to become queen and rule over her people, but in general basically any responsibilities.

Wheeler: Dying without anyone knowing who she was.
