snip!

This looks grand! But lemme clarify, tho...

How'd you get the boulders aboveground? or did you spawn them with console? no worries, I tolerate console usage a lot ;) i just want to know if there's a way we could do it vanilla so that I could, in time use the method too.

I believe you can carry the cave in boulders while traveling with sinkholes

Hey! I play on PS4, so no mods or cheats or anything like that. I hung out in the caves for a summer and let Antlion drop some boulders, picked them up and carried them one by one up through the sinkhole to where I wanted above ground. Very long brutal process but deff worth it ahah! I think they are cute and add a special touch for decorating. x

Nice bases!

I would like to know how do you do to avoid the base to burn in summer? what are your strategy? ice staff? flingomatik?

I like to avoid it as much as possible. This means going to places where wildfires don't start: the oasis desert and caves. If I have to deal with wildfires, the ice staff is usually enough since wildfires start as a single object smoldering. I just have to listen for smoldering sounds in this case.

Also: Wildfires don't start during dusk or night in summer, so if i need to go to areas unprotected by flingos, that's when I would go. They also only start when the world temperature is above 80.

Can I ask, what's the point of building a base in the Oasis? During summer, wouldn't it be super annoying with constant sandstorms getting in your way? Or is this somehow mitigated?

The blueprints for the desert goggles (and by extension the goggles) can be fished out of the oasis lake during summer and are quite cheap to make

When worn, you'll be able to walk around the oasis desert like normal and your vision won't be nearly as hampered.

These goggles, along with the fact that random smoldering being negated by the sandstorm and the antlion being so close makes the oasis an ideal summer basing location

As Brago-sama mentioned, the desert googles are a must. It costs you the head slot, but I really like the freedom of not having to design a base around flingos. I also don't have to worry about managing a fuel supply for the flingos.

So would these be optimal as summer-only bases or year round? Here's some more questions because I need to get better at base building:

  1. What should I look for in terms of map? I normally try to base centrally to important resources (Pig King/Villages, Oasis, Beefalo, Boulders, etc.), but sometimes I feel like I have to travel around too much.
  2. Is there any reason to have both a normal base, and a base for a different season?
  3. What "components" are helpful for a base? I usually have a berry farm, tree farm, saplings/twiggy tree farm, grass, and normal vegetable farms. (And also Pigs+Spider farms)

plus I believe the oasis has a small aura of coldness

The ideal place to base would always be somewhere near permanent structures.

For some, the oasis desert and its cactus and volt goats hare a great choice. Another great spot is near the swamp for its reeds.Pig king's actually a meh choice. You wont be visiting him very often and you can just move the pig villages.

Personally I found a sinkhole that, in the caves, is close to a other sinkhole, and leads to the other side of the map. You just have to be lucky to find a wormhole/sinkhole. The good thing is that they're not very rare

If you have stuff to do above ground like farming trees or stuff like that an above ground summer base is nice but I personally have a cave base to explore the ruins/caves during summer

Summer in the caves is quite nice. No heat, no smoldering, farms, berry bushes, grass, mushroom planters, basically anything you can think of grow year round (farms still need a natural lightsource so place them under sinklights) you may want to consider just making a small base down there, next to the entrance of the ruins so you have access to lichen, a great food source.

You always want a twig and grass farm. Apart from that, it's up to you for food. There are so many ways to get food in this game. The only thing you need to do is pick one and stick to it. Make your food source grow in output and you'll never grow hungry.

My personal favorite are bee farms. Just 7 of them and enough flowers around them and you can get at least a stack of honey a day. You dont even need to use them in the crockpot with that much honey, I just eat raw honey. They can be used by any character, even the monsters like webber and wortox

Oh and for your 1st question, yes the oasis desert is a fine choice for a base as long as the sand doesn't bug you too much.

My base components:

1. Grass Geckos - I like to keep a pen of around 40 grass geckos and place a pig house in the middle for automatic grass.

2. Twiggy Trees - I plant twiggy trees and just pick up the twigs they occasionally drop.

3. Pig Houses - For converting monster meat to pig skin and meat.

4. Spider Nests - I keep around 6 nests away from base for when I need silk and monster meat

5. Bunnymen - For carrots and meat. You can start wars with bunnymen the same way you do spiders (using carrots to befriend instead). A useful client mod for that is Don't Pick Up Meat.

6. Mushroom Planters - I grow blue mushrooms as a quick and reliable source of hp

7. Drying racks - To make use of the excess meat from bunnymen and pigs. I usually bundle these and save them for boss fights.

8. Kitchen - Crock pot station

9. Chests - To store everything and keep things organized.

10. Trees - For wood and living logs.

11. Tooth Trap area - to trivialize hound attacks

You can kinda see most of the components here:322330_20190918230507_1.thumb.png.4e50683f21a0f3fda981869953f5fa9f.png

I do have farms, but I seldom use them as its simpler for me to just rely on mushrooms and bunnymen for vegetables. Spider nests are kept away from the base. Twiggy trees are planted along a path that leads out of the desert.

Hello my friends! I need some advice for my base, I don't know If this is the right place for asking this, especially since I don't want to waste a topic page asking a question about a stupid base but. I have a late 200 day world(I made the world to test out Warly when he first came out) where I literally just 30 minutes ago killed my first dragon fly in my server, after that experience I now just want to start continuing the base, Here is How my base looks so far And maybe you could help me think on planning how it can look for ideas of adding things. I won't be too descriptive since There's not much to talk about (And a heavy Tropical storm is heading my way;-;) I'll just let the pictures do the talking.

5daa61b89b741_DontStarveTogether_ConsoleEdition_20191018204214.thumb.jpg.31909eaad5b5ba525d18b2a7a4d5fca5.jpg

Here is a map view of my little area, I probably should have find a better picture but I've just gotten this so far.

5daa61d6a7ff5_DontStarveTogether_ConsoleEdition_20191018204118.thumb.jpg.a7db72ecb951a4c778f58c0fc36cb92a.jpg

Here is a Closer view!

Here is the main area, (Sorry it looks like a mess. I'll work on it later) For now in this area I just have simply everything I need for now.

Here Is my farm area, I usually gather as many crops during spring and take them all down to eat during the summer, also with my berry bush/ twig farm underneath.

Over here is my Lunar Garden for now I'm keeping the stuff over here!

And over here Is my storage shed where I keep meh supplies.

If you have any Ideas for it please let me know, I'll message back on my phone later since I said before a Tropical storm (which could be a tornado) Is heading over my house. so until then see you then and Don't Starve! :)

I have some ideas, but it's a big project.

If I were you, I'd make my base surrounding the lake to the left of your current base and make a floating base in the middle of the lake. That would be something fun and different.
