Oozinator
Tip2: Clean all debris first, because dupes hate, when they live in a trashbin!
dcabines
Tip3: Build an outhouse on cycle 1 so no one pees on the floor.
Christophlette
Tip4: Don't build beds too close to the printing pod at cycle 1. Dupes don't like light !
Qubit
Tip5: Up the priority on your starter ration box and flag it to grab all food types right-away. Do this before you even build your latrines. If food is sitting nearby on the ground when your dupes finish the latrines late in the first cycle, odds are dismally high that they will use the bathroom and then sit down to eat before washing hands. Possibility for cycle 2 food poisoning.

metallichydra
tip 7: build washbasins so that dupes have to wash their hands before leaving the latrine - it really helps keep germs out of the base tip 8: germs was nerfed at some point, so dont be afraid of slimelung, it has almost no effect. tip 9: watch out for heat - it will kill your plants. tip 10: the sporechid is the best plant in the whole game, and have extremely high decor value. tip 11: sporechid is spelled sporechid, not sporechild. metallichydra
tip 13: building heavi watt wires in your base is usually not a good idea, as it have a high negative decor value. heavi (name of pretty wire) wire have a lower negative decor value, smaller radius, and can be made of gold, which looks pretty - usually resulting in a much lower negative decor value, causing a lot less stress to your duplicants tip 14 : dupe means duplicant. Novo
Tip:16 Don't worry too much if you're colony dies a horrible screaming death. Start a new one. Oh and duplicants are a resource to be used.
axxionx12
A mess hall is simple to set up and you can meet the decor requirement with a plant in a pot. You can also disable the water cooler after building it to save water, but keep the bonus. The morale bonus is really nice early on
Gunhaver
Tip # 17 the down arrow on the "choose duplicant" screen is actually a filter, so you can choose the dominant job you wish your dupe to have. I'm not sure how down arrow conveys that well...
hacksaw12
Use the room overlay, rooms just need to be closed in. Door doesn't have to be closed and tiles don't need to be manufactured. Natural tiles work just fine. The latrine, bedroom and messhall bonus can help you out immediately.

I've gone 100s of cycles without any desease this way.
phod
Seal off your base early to help keep oxygen where you really need it. As CO2 becomes a problem, dig down to open up a cavern to store it temporarily. It's ok for your dupes to hold their breath for a while, though it will eventually increase stress, and if it's for too long, they will of course die. Try to get away from mush bars for food as soon as possible, they make your dupes spend a lot of time running to the bathroom.
axxionx12
Optimal room height for most purposes is 4 tiles high. Bedrooms and barracks MUST be at least 4 times high.
Sasza22
Keep exploring. Don`t sit too long in the starting zone or you will run out of resources. Just make sure not to flood your base and avoid breaking pockets of chlorine before you are ready to deal with it.

avc15
tip: start on terra. tip: you're going to lose colonies. Don't sweat it. If you're sweating it, there's a "sandbox" button that can get you through any resource crisis in a pinch so you don't have to start over.
Moah
Tip 19: Never use the Sandbox tool to rescue your colony. If you use it once you will use it always...
