The Curated Hamlet Polishing Checklist

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Starvers,

my plan for this thread is to create a comprehensive list of issues still present in the Hamlet DLC, grouped into categories. Each of these issues should be sufficiently reproducible, be described as precise and tight as possible, and have dates, links and credits to their initial reports. No duplicates, only stuff that is clearly not working as intended, no suggestions or personal opinions.

Please feel free to comment and contribute! I'm hoping to have your support! :wilson_flower:

Items:

Spoiler
  • Raw Birchnuts ("acorn") are edible for the player. They have not been edible since their introduction in Reign of Giants. Initially reported by Intuitive on February 15, 2019.
  • All kinds of trees, plants and flowers (except for Coconut Palm Trees) can be planted on Hamlet's man-made turfs (including Flat Stone Turf ("turf_foundation"), Stone Road Turf ("turf_cobbleroad") and Beard Hair Rug ("turf_beard_hair")).

Structures / Objects:

Spoiler
  • The Bramble Bloom's ("bramble_core") idle animation does not loop. It only plays once, then freezes at the last frame. Initially reported by myself on April 27, 2019.
  • Bramble Blooms ("bramble_core") are spawned each time the game is reloaded in Lush Season without checking wether their spot is already occupied. This means the player is able to create a unlimited amount of Bramble Blooms overlapping each other at will. Initially reported by twitchgabo on April 23, 2019.

Spoiler
  • The rotating Dart Trap Turret ("pig_ruins_dart_statue") in the Ancient Pig Ruins has the same name, Striking Carving, as the dart trap reliefs on the walls. It also has no specific examination quotes.
  • Wilba (and Wagstaff) have not been assigned a gender in constants.lua. Therefore, she is adressed with male pronouns in the Adventure Mode epilogue.
  • Characters use their Boulder examination quotes for all Crumbling Visages ("pig_ruins_ant", "pig_ruins_head", "pig_ruins_pig"), the Tempting Idol ("pig_ruins_idol"), the Erroding Totem ("pig_ruins_plaque") and Stone Slabs ("rock_flippable"). They don't fit. Making it even more sad is the fact that are actually unused specific quotes for the last four mentioned prefabs.
  • The crafting description of the Smelter ("smelter") is a bit basic: "Turn Iron into Alloy". At the very least it's missing punctuation.
  • Wolfgang's comment for the Pew-matic Horn ("trusty_shooter") has instead been assigned to the non-existing prefab "rusty_shooter". Initially reported by Bluegeist on May 9, 2019.
  • The crafting description of The Tinkerer's Tower ("pig_shop_tinker") seems to be slightly too long to be shown in the crafting menu. Therefore, its last word is cut off. Subsequently reported by Fjedjik on March 20, 2019.
  • Wormwood's comment for Rot ("spoiled_food") is "Yum". However, eating it actually causes him to lose some hunger. Initially reported by Portmanteau on February 24, 2019.

Missing examination quotes:

  • Swinesbury Academy ("pig_shop_academy") - Wormwood. Mistakenly assigned to the non-existing prefab "pig_shop_museum" instead.
  • Ro Bin Gizzard Stone, Ro Bin's "Eyebone" ("ro_bin_gizzard_stone") - Wickerbottom, Wilba (seem to have been skipped in the last update).
  • Striking Carving, dart traps on the walls in the Ancient Pig Ruins ("pig_ruins_pigman_relief_dart1...4") - Everyone (There are unused quotes for the object "pig_ruins_dart_trap" in the files, but this object cannot be examined).

Typos:

  • Wheeler's comment for the Yellow Crocodog ("poisoncrocodog") - "Pardon me while avoid your teeth." instead of "Pardon me while I avoid your teeth."
  • Wagstaff's comment for the Living Artifact ("living_artifact") - "An ancient war machine! I must appraise its funtionality!" instead of "An ancient war machine! I must appraise its functionality!"
  • Wickerbottom's comment for the Hippopotamoose Antler ("hippo_antler") - "Belongs to a Hippoptamidae Capreolinae." instead of "Belongs to a Hippopotamidae Capreolinae."

Stuff to be tested:

Spoiler
  • In Hamlet-compatible Reign of Giants or base worlds, craftable Structures are covered with snow in Winter despite standing inside of an interior. Initially reported by Damlet on April 22, 2019.
  • Wagstaff's nearsightedness name randomizer includes everything from STRINGS.NAMES. This can lead to results that range from confusing and probably unintended to game-crashing:
    • Character names, for example: "Wilson", "Woodie", "Warbucks", etc.
    • Causes of death from the Morgue, for example: "Starvation", "Ressurection Sickness", "Shenanigans", etc.
    • Stuff from the Renovate Tab, for example: "No Smoking", "Circle Wall Tiling", "Slate Flooring", etc.
    • Unimplemented and removed features, for example "Dev Tool", "Hay Fever Hat", "Fire Snake", "Team Leader", etc.
    • Strings that are completed during runtime:
      • "Ashes of %s" ("ash_remains")
      • "{item} Sign" ("minisign_drawn")
      • "Wreck of the %s" ("wreckof")
    • A blank string: ("shop_buyer")
    • A table ("mermhouse") - This one causes the game to crash. Initially reported by HobNob on April 20, 2019.
  • Webber's Shamlet Mask ("disguisehat") removes the "monster" tag when worn and adds it back when taken off. This works for Webber, but not for hat-wearing mobs like Pigs and Bunnymen. By giving them the Shamlet Mask first and then removing it with another hat, they can be technically turned into monsters. Initially reported by Portmanteau on April 20, 2019.
  • Unlike other character-specific craftables, the Shamlet Mask ("disguisehat") appears at the bottom of the Dress crafting tab instead of the top. Initially reported by Portmanteau on April 20, 2019.
  • Webber's Shamlet Mask ("disguisehat") lacks the character-specific component and thus remains after switching characters via teleportato world-hopping. This also reveals that the Shamlet Mask is mistakenly not an opentop hat like the Garland which makes (mod) characters use the hat hair animation and looks weird. Initially reported by Portmanteau on April 20, 2019.
  • It is no longer possible to inspect any kind of Boat both from land or when standing on another Boat. On land, characters will use their ACTIONFAIL_RUMMAGE quotes, on a boat, the Inspect option is not available at all when the mouse hovers over the Boat. This bug also affects Shipwrecked. Initially reported by voyager156 on March 13, 2019.
  • Flying Birds may stop spawning in Hamlet worlds after spending some time in an area covered mainly in Flat Stone Turf, i.e. a pig city. Reloading the game fixes the issue temporarily. azukun suggested a potential fix for this bug on January 7, 2019. Initially reported by TheBlob on October 16 and on November 8, 2018, by Vante on October 23, 2018, by ederin38 on November 15, 2018, by Lisaoak on November 24, 2018, by beautybug on November 25, 2018, by A.P.Erson on February 10, 2019 and many others.
  • Ro Bin ("ro_bin") does not have a map icon and instead uses Chester's.
  • The Salt Lick ("saltlick") does not have an icon on the map (which it has in Don't Starve Together). Initially reported by KXWI1 on April 21, 2019.
  • Carpets in the Renovate Tab block player interaction (for example, using a structure, or picking up or dropping items on top of them). Initially reported by Pascaleblanc on January 6, 2019 and by wotfan92 on February 7, 2019.
  • "SPIDER_MONKEY_DAMAGE" in tuning.lua says Spider Monkeys should do 60 melee damage. They are prevented from doing so by an unused function within their prefab ("spider_monkey") for a ranged attack that is setting their damage to "MONKEY_MELEE_DAMAGE" (20, the value used by Splumonkeys). Initially reported by Zeklo on March 16, 2019.
  • The Cork Barrel ("corkchest") is invisible on the map even though there is an icon for it in the files.
  • The Hot Air Balloon debris found on Hamlet's spawn point cannot be examined even though there are quotes available in the characters' speech files. The prefabs are "porkland_intro_... ...basket, ...balloon, ...trunk, ...suitcase, ...flags, and ...sandbag". Initially reported by fimmatek on October 17, 2018.
  • There are a few excessive frames at the end of Wilba's animation for reverting from Werepig form to regular form causing her to flicker. Initially reported by Kawtharani on March 20, 2019.

Stuff that has been fixed, hooray!

Spoiler
  • Missing examination quotes:
    • Ancient Herald ("ancient_herald") - Everyone. Actually, there are quotes for it in the speech files, however, they are assigned to the non-existing prefab "apokalypse_herald" instead. Reported by myself on April 10, 2019. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Ro Bin, Hamlet's version of Chester ("ro_bin") - Everyone. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Ro Bin Gizzard Stone, Ro Bin's "Eyebone" ("ro_bin_gizzard_stone") - Everyone. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019. (Except for Wickerbottom and Wilba).

    • Ruinous Entrance, entrance leading to Aporkalypse Calender ("pig_ruins_entrance5") - Wickerbottom, Wilba, Willow, Wilson, Wolfgang, Woodie, Woodlegs, Wormwood, WX-78. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Ruinous Entrance, exit leading to Aporkalypse island ("pig_ruins_exit4") - Wickerbottom, Wilba, Willow, Wilson, Wolfgang, Woodie, Woodlegs, Wormwood, WX-78. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.

    • Ruinous Entrance, entrance leading to Pherostone ("pig_ruins_entrance3") - Wickerbottom, Wilba, Willow, Wilson, Wolfgang, Woodie, Woodlegs, Wormwood, WX-78. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Ruinous Entrance, exit leading to Fountain of Youth ("pig_ruins_exit2") - Wickerbottom, Wilba, Willow, Wilson, Wolfgang, Woodie, Woodlegs, Wormwood, WX-78. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Ruinous Entrance, entrance leading to Fountain of Youth ("pig_ruins_entrance2") - Wickerbottom, Wilba, Willow, Wilson, Wolfgang, Woodie, Woodlegs, Wormwood, WX-78. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.

    • Swinesbury City Hall ("pig_shop_cityhall") - Wilson. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.

    • The Sterling Trough Deli ("pig_shop_deli") - Wilson. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Royal Pig Guards Variation 2, the one with red/purple pants that spawns in the second pig city ("pigman_royalguard_2") - Everyone. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Usher Pig, the one looking for berries ("pigman_usher") - Everyone. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • Wheeler's comment for the Cormorant ("cormorant") is just an empty string. Initially reported by Hx380 on April 27, 2019. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • In the speech files, three lines from the Shipwrecked - Home Sea Home update (September 2017) were mistakenly not copied over into the Hamlet files for all characters. Consequently, they are now missing for non-Hamlet characters in Hamlet-compatible worlds while Hamlet characters never received them in the first place. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019. The affected items were:
    • Mussel Bed, craftable item ("mussel_bed") - Everyone.
    • Harpoon ("harpoon") - Everyone.
    • Quacken Drill ("quackendrill") - Everyone.
  • Missing crafting descriptions:
    • Telipad ("telipad"). Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Peagawk Wall Paper ("interior_wall_peagawk"), just an empty string. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • Typos:
    • Wheeler's comment for the Sunken Boat ("sunkboat") - "I'm assume they didn't mean to sink it like that." instead of "I'm assuming they didn't mean to sink it like that." Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Wheeler's comment for Pogs ("pog") during Aporkalypse - "Are you aware that you're terrifying now." instead of "Are you aware that you're terrifying now?" Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
    • Some crafting descriptions for Wallpapers in the Renovate Tab are missing punctuation, namely Orange Wall Paper ("interior_wall_plain_ds"), Purple Wall Paper ("interior_wall_plain_rog") and Upholstered Wall ("interior_wall_upholstered"). Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • The World Customization screen for Hamlet shows Claw Palm Trees with pink leaves like they looked before their recolor. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • The World Customization screen for Hamlet shows an icon for Poison Mosquitoes even though only regular Mosquitoes are present in lily ponds. Initially reported by Macius on November 15, 2018. Fixed in Update 332388 on May 8, 2019.
  • After dying in an interior and being resurrected, the player's skeleton is spawned in the first interior they enter after their resurrection. Their inventory items are still found in the correct room. Initially reported by kiwikenobi on October 28, 2018, by SiriusPuppy on February 17, 2019 and by Azdrubael_Vect on February 20, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • Perishable items that rot in interiors while the player is not present will disappear. The rotten item they're replaced with will not be registered to belong to that room and will be left behind in limbo. Initially reported by thomasming on December 28, 2018, by Wennedy on December 29, 2018, by JustTheBast on February 17, 2019 and many others.Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • The lower part of a Houndius Shootius ("eyeturret") becomes invisible / is left behind in limbo when building it in an interior, then leaving and re-entering. Initially reported by Sunset Skye on March 18, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • The Ball Pein Hammer loses twice as much durability (5% -> 10%) when the chiseling/dislodging action is triggered using the space bar instead of clicking on the statue/relic. Initially reported by Obscure23 on October 20, 2018 and by NeedToDie on March 9, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • There is a chance for a second Regal Scepter ("pig_scepter") to spawn on the BFB's island. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • Birchnuts ("acorn"), Jungle Burrs ("burr"), Pine Cones ("pinecone"), Seed Pods ("teatree_nut"), Butterflies ("butterfly"), Lureplants ("lureplantbulb"), Bee Mines ("beemine"), Tooth Traps ("trap_teeth") and Wormwood's Bramble Traps ("trap_bramble") can be planted or deployed on water turfs (both Hamlet's lily ponds and Shipwrecked's ocean). Initially reported by myself on November 26, 2018. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • When hammering a single non-stacked Spoiled Fish ("spoiled_fish") in the inventory, no Bone Shards are returned. Yet the Hammer's durability is still depleted and the fish disappears. Initially reported by Portmanteau on March 13, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • Dried Jellyfish ("jellyjerky") that has been dropped on the ground always looks as if it is floating on water, even when dropped on solid ground. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • The Collector Pig ("pigman_collector"), which is also found in 'The Sty' Oddities Emporium, has a limited inventory for traded items, especially non-stackable Lost Relics. After being given ~10 of those, he starts dropping the item he just bought while also paying the player. This can be exploited infinitely. Initially reported by romanzc on October 20, 2018, by lazyalia on December 19, 2018, by TalZahn on February 15, 2019, by H3llReaper on February 22, 2019 and by mxmxmm on March 8, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • 'The Sty' Oddities Emporium ("pig_shop_antiquities") does not have a crafting description in the City Planning tab because of a typo in the description's id (anitquities instead of antiquities). Subsequently reported by Fjedjik on March 20, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • The Florist Pig ("pigman_florist") still asks the player for "PLOP" even though Manure cannot be traded with her anymore since the early days of the Closed Beta. Initially reported by Wyulliam on October 26, 2018 and by ansuman on December 1, 2018. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • There are examination quotes for Lily Pads ("lilypad") in the characters' speech files, however, they're not used. Instead, characters use their Pond quotes (which do not fit) because prefabs/lillypad.lua, Line 218 tells them to. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • Wormwood's character description has a period incorrectly placed at the end of his third perk. Initially reported by Portmanteau on February 24, 2019. Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • Missing examination quotes: Pig Queen Malfalfa ("pigman_queen") - Everyone (Actually, there are quotes for her in the speech files, however, they are assigned to the non-existing prefab "pig_queen" instead). Fixed in Update 319878 on March 28, 2019.
  • The Hunter Pig Trader cannot be given Hound's Teeth even though he asks for them. This is caused by the item's prefab ("houndstooth") missing the "tradable" component. Still present after Update 317078! Initially reported by Zinglon on October 21, 2018, by QuartzBeam on October 24, 2018, by Charsis on December 12, 2018 and by Alecs. on January 11, 2019. Fixed in Update 317319 on March 19, 2019.
  • Dropping a living Rainbow Jellyfish ("rainbowjellyfish") into one of Hamlet's lily ponds crashes the game because it cannot find anything to migrate towards. Initially reported by hhhhddh on December 25, 2018, by Field Field on January 4, 2019 and by NotStarved on March 6, 2019. Fixed in Update 317078 on March 18, 2019.
  • If the BFB is abducting the player, but the player is killed in the process, the BFB will still transport them to its nest. There, the player will enter an undefined state where they are able to walk around, but not to interact with the environment. Game over is not executed properly, any resurrection methods available to the player seem to be ignored. Initially reported by tiger_roar on November 24, 2018, by gghhrr on December 1, 2018, by toady66 on February 2, 2019 and by M1KE1STH3B3ST on February 16, 2019. Fixed in Update 317078 on March 18, 2019.
  • Item duplication: Hammering a Drying Rack ("meatrack") that has been harvested before, additionally returns the last item that has been dried on it (in its raw state). Tested with Morsels, Jellyfish and Seaweed. Initially reported by plotmissed on February 18, 2019. Fixed in Update 317078 on March 18, 2019.
  • The Floating Shelf does not have an icon in the Renovate crafting menu and will either be shown as a Fridge or as a Pipe Shelf depending on the direction of scrolling. Fixed in Update 317078 on March 18, 2019.
  • The Smelter ("smelter") uses the Crock Pot's map icon instead of its own. Initially reported by myself on November 18, 2018. Fixed in Update 311861 on February 27, 2019.

I didn't see these issues in here so I figured I'd put them here so that they could be added to the post. The bugs and issues report for Wormwood has a lot of bugs that I found while playing and have also frequently seen reported in the bug tracker since then and some other ones I found a while back. Apologies about the suggestions and/or opinions expressed in the latter report, I made this report awhile ago, but at least a few of the issues in it I know are still in the game.

Maybe we need a Wormwood category...

I also think that character quotes for lilypad, stone slabs and everything related to the ruins need to be fixed. Cuz rn they're either "It's... a thing" or quotes for other objects for example stone slab has boulder quotes

General performance improvements would go a long way, especially inside the ruins. If you get unlucky, you can get random stutters inside of them. I never have any idea what might be causing them.

Ah, and the audio stutter. Even with no mods. Might be a CPU bottleneck considering how many active entities there are on a Hamlet world. Also, FIX THE MUSIC! So annoying to see the music files be in the game but go unused. Instead, we have Temperate/Autumn music playing throughout most of the seasons. And don't even begin on the boss fight soundtracks...

APOCALYPSE IMPROVEMENTS PLS! There is no way the Aporkalypse in it's current state is finished. It's pretty uninspired. Where's all the creepy sounds at? The falling meteors and the feeling of an actual world ending? Badass spooky bosses? They just aren't there. I literally want Wilson to crap his pants when it happens.

More islands, ones which hopefully use the content that is in the game files. (The Third Jungle? That tribal/wild pig that is in the game files. So much good content.)

More "wild" life. Zebras (which are in the game files) and other mobs should be added just to make Hamlet feel like a more lively place.

Yeah, I know this is a "bug fix" thread and not a suggestion thread, but DAMN! These just have to happen.

i'd just like to point out, since i listened to the last hamlet stream they ARE making changes to all the seasons including aporkalypse.

Season changes: new perks and challenges alike, this can also mean for a lot of new things like creatures, but don't quote me on it. However, i want more creatures as well.

Remember, just because it is IN the gamefiles, doesn't mean it'll get added, it's likely that the zebra is unused and scrapped, the same with the pig children, the red pig guards, the different pig flags, baby spidermonkey. Remember slipstor? Remember the snowman? All i'm saying is don't hold your breath.

HOWEVER. one thing is definitely weird. and that is a lot of the music that is not added in yet, and maybe its because they didn't *like* the idea of a third jungle... but then.. why have a track called exactly that... Or the pig city theme, i'm really interested in it as well. They didn't really state it anywhere as well... so..

It could also be the reason that the music is not done yet(?) and they're still working on it, like the temperate theme. Or pugalisk

Thanks to everyone for their likes, and thanks, and comments! :wilson_love:

I added a lot of the stuff mentioned in the previous comments to the list. What I left out, I either deemed to be too much of a personal suggestion (which are fine, that's just not the list for them), to need more testing or to be fixed in the meantime. However, I'm happy to discuss anything!

Sorry for taking some time for updating, but I feel obliged to test everything personally before adding it to the list. And then in the process, so far, I've always found another related bug. I'm also amazed to find that in fact, there are custom quotes for Lily Pads, they're just not used because their code says no.

They should check whether Wormwood is an unlockable character or aviable from the beginning.

Have him be unlocked within the Poison Biome. I don't know how, but it would be damn cool.

I thought it would be a cool idea finding his "gem" and place it in its vessel like unlocking Wilbur.

What's up with the Pig Traders' inventories overflowing causing them to drop the latest item they bought? It has been reported independently several times, but the latest report has been marked as "can't reproduce" by Jason. Is it only the Oddities shop keeper that's affected or is it more notable with him because the relic items don't stack?

As far as I can tell that was fixed.

EDIT: I stand corrected. The oddity shop collector in specific is still bugged,

Yes, sorry, I should have clarified. I was aware the bug is still present because I tested it as well, and after like ~10 Lost Totems ("relic_2") he started dropping them again. I just didn't want to add the issue to the list without verifying whether it affected him specifically or all shop keepers.

Yay, thank you for these fixes! You guys are wonderful! :wilson_love:

I just tested ingame and updated the list! Now I have a lily pond full of happy Rainbow Jellyfish, but - I'm sorry to say this - it seems, still none of the pigs seem to take interest in the Hound's Teeth I'm offering them.

You're right. We're looking into it.

Edited: This should be fixed with update 317319

I have two Bugs that i've reported on the bug tracker, but your right- its a mess.

Here are the two that havent been fixed yet.

While transporting from a interior (in my case the house) to another interior with the telelocator staff, if you wear armor you will hear mobs hitting the armor (in my case it was pig guards) and you see a blank slate of a home with the flooring that was chosen for the room. You will also lose durability when this happens. Also, (this is probably because my computer is old) but when i leave a building, i have to wait about 3-4 seconds to move and in that time, i get hit and lose armour as well.

The second is a bug i posted an hour ago, if you pick up an item in your offhand and press space near the seaworthy or skyworthy, the game will crash. Over time my animation for traveling (the character getting on the skyworthy) get worse and worse, to the point that she no longer gets on the skyworthy, the screen just slowly fades to black when i click either the skyworthy or seaworthy.

Both bugs had bug reports in game sent along with my game save files.

Thank you dev's for fixing the bugs this update- Two bugs that i've reported got fixed (the rainbow jellyfish and the pugalisk crash) And you can really tell you all have worked so hard!

Keep up the good work.
