On Examination Quotes

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

Out of curiousity, I would wish to ask questions about and discuss the exam quotes of each character.

Which character's got the best set of quotes? Which one provides the most stoic, informational, or humorous quotes?  Are there any changes one would wish upon a particular set of quotes?

It depands on what you like.

-Bad puns- Wilson-  Ice "Ice to meet you"

-Morbid and depresed- Wendy- Rope "That would be the easy way out of here"

-Static and filled with hatred- Wx-78- Staligmite "ROCKS CONTAINING ROCKS"

-Childlish- Webber

-Sassy and lore-revealing- Maxwell- Rain-o-meter "Or I could just look up and learn the same thing"

I read that woodie was a Catholic because of one of his quotes. Although I forgot where I read that, maybe from the wiki but idk.

His quote for Clockwork bishop is something like this "It's been a while since my last confession" so that's why

Do any of you guys think some quotes should be updated, though?

I don't think so, because the characters shows his thoughts and opinions (when the quotes are not about puns or references).

The quote of Wendy about Boards ("Even scarier for the trees.") is the second part of Logs ("If trees could talk, they would scream at the sight of this.").

Wendy's "Boards." for example, are rather... overly succinct if i may put it, and don't really give flavor to the character IMO.

Any other instances of this?

Wilson’s “Boards”

No, I’m not kidding. They both say that.

Well, if this thread got necroed, I think it's a great opportunity to share my opinion on the topic :)

Winson's puns, Wigfrid's roleplaying, Wendy's depression, WX's superiority complex have all great quotes! I also like some of Maxwell's, he's like watching the world from outside or from an ex-king perspective ("Pocket-sized wall pieces. Yup.", GOLDENPICKAXE = "This must be game logic.", GHOSTHEART = "I don't think so. They might still be mad.") and his ironic quotes ("Worry not, pal. I've the patience of a saint."). Also, his priorities are great (ANNOUNCE_WET = "Water'll ruin a good suit, you know?"). Woodie also has some great quotes ("Whose bright idea was it to fix this thing?" - repaired bishop sculpture, GARGOYLE_WEREPIG = "Hmph. Maybe I don't got it so bad.").

When Winona was released, she quickly became one of my favourite, quote-wise. Some of her best are (in spoiler, there's quite some :D )

Spoiler

MANDRAKE_ACTIVE = "This is exactly what having a little sister's like.",
RED_CAP = "Let Max try it first.",
RESURRECTIONSTONE = "Does anyone actually stay dead around here?",
SKELETON = "A workplace safety reminder.",
SPAT = "Looks like the old foreman. Ha!",
STATUEMAXWELL = "So THIS is \"Maxy\".",
--...
CHESSPIECE_MUSE =
{
    GENERIC = "I've got a bad feeling about this one.",
    --STRUGGLE = "...H-hello?",
}
STINGER = "I don't see the point. Oh wait, there it is.",
TRINKET_34 = "I wish for more wishes.", --Monkey Paw
ACTIONFAIL = GIVE = ABIGAILHEART = "No one should ever lose a sister.",
ACTIONFAIL = CHANGEIN = INUSE = "Should I put together another one?",
ANNOUNCE_HUNGRY = "When's lunch?",
WAXWELL = GHOST = "I could just leave you like this, hey?",
WX78 = GENERIC = "C'mon, %s! Justa tiny peek under the hood!",
WOODIE = BEAVERGHOST = "You're just a walkin' disaster, ain'tcha, %s?",
WEBBERSKULL = "I swear the kid'd lose his head if it weren't... wait.",
DEAD = "I think it was my turn to feed her.",
SKELETON = "Let's uh... just sweep that under the rug.",
BUTTERFLYMUFFIN = "Never liked having butterflies in my stomach.",
SHADOWDIGGER = "Too lazy to do your own chores, Max?",
ANCIENT_STATUE = "I'd never wanna meet one in person.",

ADVENTURE_PORTAL = "I ain't jumping willy-nilly through strange portals!",
ON = "Not sure I trust strange portals anymore.",

Side note: the lack of quotes is one huge reason why I don't like Wes.

I made a mistake there and misconstrued Wendy's line as just "Boards", sorry xD

But the line that does it for me is when Wendy meets a Werebeaver:

"He pinky-promised I'd get to ride on his shoulders. Such lies."

Also, what's with the fuss about the License plate quotes??

it shows when they came to the constant for licence plates were put into production after 1920 so for the lines who dont knw what it is were trapped before 1920 (i.e. max, wicker) and those who do know what it is are after 1920 (webber, wino, willow)

WX has the best IMO.

Nothing tops "BRING IT FLESHLINGS!" on examining a spear.

Besides he has great humor, second to Wilson. ("Log(1) = 0", "WHOSE KNOT IS THIS? THAT'S A WELL GORDED SECRET", and "OH NO. WHAT HAVE I DONE TO YOU?")

Wendy's quotes are darker than I remember:

Gord's Knot - "If only knives solved more of my problems"

Honey Poultice - "I'll only end up hurt again"

Scalemale - "I'd like to wear it inside out"

Sad or funny?

Both, then! :D

Personally it's Maxwell's Eggnog quote for me. "My... favorite... she remembered."

But since you also mentioned funny, these are some of my other favorite funny lines:
"I might hide those in WX-78’s bedroll if I get bored." - Maxwell examining Frazzled wires
"Will take to fragile man Maxwell. He always talk about 'pulling strings'." - Wolfgang, examining Frayed Yarn

One of my favourites is Warly examining Seafood Gumbo- "Incredible! Just like Nana used to make!". I also find all of the Steamed Ham Sandwich quotes pretty funny. Can't forget Wolfgang's quote when examining the Silliy Monkey Ball- "Haha! Stupid monkey men."
