I tried a setup to have the maximum number of bristle blossoms using just the light of the printing pod. I managed to put in 15 of them. Please have a look and comment if anybody has been able to put in more than that.

If you use glass tiles and planting pods you could fit even more

(There are old thread on the forum showing other designs)

If my memory serves me right: You should be able to fit at least 21 plants around the printing pod

So, yeah this allows for a maximum of 21 plants. But this arrangement isn't possible until mid-game with access to glass or diamond. When window tiles are not available in the beginning, the 15 plant setup works good enough too.

I've used the light from the printing pod to grow bristle blooms early in the game for quite a while.  I never thought of placing tiles like that -- usually I just use the farming planter boxes in regular locations, giving me about 12 to 15 farming plots once I have diamond available.  Your placements, however, would allow for irrigated plants once hydroponics are researched.

The top row might be possible by leaving light gaps, just at a reduced amount of plants.

does mesh tiles not work?    mesh tiles work    for space lights shining through  so I think you don't need the window tiles.

the thing about planter boxes is you can't automate it-   dupes required to fill it with water.

When you reach the point that you can't spare some dupe time to water plants, you've probably advanced enough to run some lights, and thus not need the setup.

Mesh tiles used to allow artificial light through.  So did air flow tiles.  Once glass was introduced, they were changed so that they no longer allow light to pass through.

Yes, planter boxes require dupe interaction.  But they don't block light flow and they can be built very early in the game.

I like to put beds near the printing pod early on for the boost in decor and later its just too easy to use a lamp to sacrifice this much space and the quick dupe movement in the middle of the base.

I agree with the practice of using the printing pod to kickstart early development of bristle blossoms.

In my current base I play ravagening hunger and all mouth breather

=> Each duplicant needs ~250-350kg (depending on the time to harvest the bristle blossoms) water each day

So if we assume a water consumption of 500g/s , it´s not worth to build for max space efficiency.

=> I only grow 5 bristle blossoms on the same height as the printing pod

(-Early your dupes will take their break at the printing pod so plants on both sides will increase the decor to a nice level.

-Early game in planter boxes and as soon as possible in hydroponic farms.)

Don't the Blossom need two tiles above the roots of the plant for light?

The first design had plants only seeing light 1 tile above the roots.

Just the lower tile of the plant needs to be lit

@Rogue Witch, this is not exactly on topic, but more or less regarding the last two comments from @Lilalaunekuh and @SamLogan.

There was a previous discussion about the use of planter boxes and glass tiles, but I can't find it anywhere. This isn't my design - since I can't find the original discussion, I don't know for sure who came up with it.. I do know it was a senior member.
