Blurry character textures on Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 (Android 8)

The interface is rendered with perfect clarity but the textures of characters, mobs, and other elements of the game world are really blurry. It's most noticeable on Wilson's face but not really limited to that.

World settings don't appear to affect this; the first picture was taken in a RoG world with tweaked worldgen, the second one in a vanilla one with no worldgen customization. 

I don't remember my old phone having this problem - I'm pretty sure when I first got Pocket Edition the textures rendered clearly - but that was a different device that ran Android 6. 

My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy A5, 2017 model, running Android 8.0.0. Its model number is A5-520W.
