I found few situations, when guard is not taking shortest possible path. It was considered bug in this thread:

It's well known that this can happen, but cooperative pathfinding is very difficult. Even if the game was still actively updated it'd be unlikely that we'd see any change, and now that development is officially over there's no chance.
