Things players do that you DISLIKE

Constantly begging for basic resources like grass and twigs instead of taking the initiative to go out and find them.

Sulking because other players won't immediately give them whatever they want on demand. (My theory is that a lot of the rando players in DST are kids who are used to living with parents who rush to fulfill their every need.)

Not knowing how to play but not willing to take instruction or direction and expecting to be rescued all the time, including the moment they join. Sulking again when someone explains that everyone is fighting Dragon Fly and can't immediately drop what they're doing to provide them with an escort from spawn to the base. Expecting to be escorted to the base.

Newcomers who do not acknowledge or respond to chat from mods or longstanding players. I just kick those ones instantly because they're most likely up to no good.

Not contributing to the basic needs of the base but instead making expensive items we don't need and they don't know how to use, or bringing a beefalo back with the vague idea of taming it but no notion of how intensive that is and then you have some rando beefalo wandering in the base pooping everywhere.

I've met several players and hosts like this.  They sit at the base and ask, "anyone got rocks/logs/twigs/grass?"

I've also met ones who don't sit at the base, but they follow you like a shadow and steal your loot.  It's usually kids who don't know how to play, so they cling on to the more experienced players.  It's still annoying though.

TRIGGER WARNING!

I got pretty heated with this, but the points are still valid. So I'm putting it in a spoiler to prevent a flamewar, or triggering anybody.

Not talking in the chat on a cooperative server.

There is nothing worse than joining a nearly full cooperative server, but finding that the chat is completely dead. It makes me feel lonely and more often than not I just end up leaving.

I mean, I get it, you're busy battling a mob and can't take time to chat it up, BUT FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S NOT EVEN DOING ANYTHING ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXISTENCE DAMMIT!! :wilson_ecstatic:

Whenever I come across someone in a server, I AT LEAST /wave to them to show I acknowledge them, it's the least you can do.

Oh! Also, when people join social/cooperative servers, AND THEN MAKE A SOLO BASE, and ignoring everybody else. I mean COME ON! If you're not gonna help out, make your own server or join a competitive server. And then there are THOSE people, the ones who do what I previously mentioned, and only chat when they make snarky remarks about how we're all n00bs and we need to git gud, and that they're a pro and blah blah blah. Nobody cares m9, we're just trying to have a fun time and all you're achieving is making everyone pissed off at you, chances are that you're gonna get kicked, BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT HELPING ANYBODY!!

...0_0 (Well that was heated, lemme just...put a trigger warning on this.)

I'm the opposite.  I hate people who constantly talk about random things not related to the game.  I really would rather not.  There is literally a social mode on Don't Starve Together.  It's cooperative, but for the people who want to chat.

I agree there.  When someone types "Hi", I usually reply back to be courteous.

I agree here as well.  If you're just going to do your own thing, then play Solo mode.

Wilson: I hate when the noobs pick him.  When he's super clueless and just runs around and dies, or sits at the best and use all your resources (ANY character can do this, but most people who do the above have a Wilson).

Willow: I hate when they burn down things, whether on accident or on purpose.  I hate when they are extremely rude and steal things (like a backpack when you put on armor to fight or food right off the crock pot when you just cooked it).  Sure other characters can be rude, but I notice that most rude people tend to gravitate towards Willow (it sucks too, since I actually main her).

Wolfgang: I hate when they don't hunt their own food and eat a LARGE quantity of resources.  I hate when they never use their strength and get a lot of meat or destroy enemies.

Wendy: I hate when they don't control Abigail, so they fight beefalo or five 3 tier spider nests at once.  I hate when they don't utilize Abigail at once (like you're weak and don't come with any other perk that benefits the group.  Come on now, use her!).

WX-78: I hate when they load up on gears before we get an ice box.  I don't expect to see them a lot since many are explorers, but I still want to see you once in a while so you can contribute to the base.  It's Don't Starve TOGETHER, COOPERATIVE mode.  If you want to be on your own, play Solo.

Wickerbottom: I hate the ones that don't use their books (you're a Wilson without the beard if you don't use the book ma'am.  Please don't go off on your own, it's Don't Starve TOGETHER.

Woodie: I hate them in general to be honest.  I hate how they chop a lot of trees without replanting, so a million treeguards are all over the place-Oh wait- that's ALL of them!  I hate how they will dig up and replant 40 sticks and grass, each, by their base, fertilize them, yet still die to darkness.  I hate how they instantly die for some random reason related to a cutting down wood or being a beaver.

Wes: I hate how he has to work super hard not to be dead weight.  Please don't stay by the base, I would rather you explore and bring rare items.  Make up for your lack of pros!

Maxwell: I hate the control freak hosts that ban you because you don't stay by the 24/7 (sorry I left for 5 seconds to get supplies that I need weirdo!); it's not just one, a lot of Maxwells are control freaks.  I hate when they don't utilize their tools.

Wigfrid: I hate when they are impulsive and try to fight a 3 tier spider without traps or armor.  I hate when they rush out and fight various things without armor or a plan.

Webber: I hate when other people play him, even though I main him.  I hate how they don't make a razor to shave their beards for silk; when they DO make a razor, they shave it after 3 days!  I hate when they troll.  I hate when they plant a spider nest, only to destroy it right after.  I hate when they wonder off and don't bring anything back or contribute to the group (Don't Starve TOGETHER people!)

In General

- I hate when they ask where is the base.  Especially since I make them one by the portal.  If you're that obsessed with being by me, then you're either going to be co-dependent on me, or you're a troll.

- I hate when they shadow you like a puppy and steal your loot like a parasite.

- I hate the couch potatoes that sit at base and drain resources.

- I hate when players that are rude and steal items

That's a lot of stereotyping going on in that post...

I dislike when players simultaneously complain about people never talking in chat, and dying randomly wondering alone instead of "joining the group" and then also complain about people who enter a game and ask where base is...

In your complaints(cough, stereotypes) about the other characters, you claim they do not utilize their functions or contribute to the team.

Why then, are you complaining when a gatherer character carries out his function of gathering wood and has to stockpile saplings to not spawn shadows all over base after a werebeaver session? It's also kind of hard to avoid not spawning a treeguard or poison birchnut unless they Don't utilize their functions to the fullest, for example the full log meter window of opportunit after being a werebeaver that reaps an extra amount of wood. Also, treeguards are good for early magic and aren't much of a threat so long as you have moderate ping, and even moreso if you fight it together.

This applies to not just Woodies, but all the other characters you've been profiling and building a negative generalizations about. It'd be nice if you would come down from your high horse of judging other players to instead correct their mistakes and help them when they are contributing to the team, and in Woodies' case, defend them in their vulnerable state when they are trading sanity for resources as a werebeaver so they do not "instantly die for some random reason related to cutting down wood or being a beaver".

Be more open and understanding and aware that there are actual people just like you, who are playing the game to have some fun. And if you see them doing something you disapprove of, speak up and amend what they're doing, instead of just chalking it up to be another stereotype of people who play those characters.

I'm fine. WHERE'S THE STAGEHAND?!

Also, I agree to that. But I FIFY. :3

And! Treeguards: 3 hits then doge, lather rinse repeat until it's ded.

Poison birches: F*ck 'em. Just leave them be and they'll despawn in a day's time.

I have reasons to believe that you're missing the point there m9. We all long for a little bit of social interaction, y'know, when I join a server and say "Hi", it's just polite to respond.

Also, I don't die. I'm no mere scrub. *Fner Fner*

But those people who join and immediately ask "where's base?"...well, there's a reason it's become a Klei meme.

Found the Woodie.  If you didn't just get offended and attack me, you would also know I participated in the thread about the things I LIKE that certain players do.

Though I guess it's easier to be fake mad and just jump at people while being hypocritical.  Yes you are a hypocrite.  You complain about stereotypes and judging people, but this is a thread about things you don't like.  I don't see you in the thread about things people do you that you like.  I checked twice.  I saw Sinister Fang there, but you have yet to make an appearance.

I hated it when someone got in my room and played for a while, pick some stacks out of chest i made then they left! LEFT!And without back! God knows how I can gather those things back!

By the way, I think that let a friend of you die and haunt hounds is a good way to get enough gems.

Oh no another one...

I like how random people attack me on here among everyone else.  Just say that y'all have some random vendetta against me or something.   I don't know what that could be since I only have a bit over 100 posts so far and I made my account in December of 2016, but y'all obviously have something against me.

They're reactions to your post, not very random at all.

Maybe you don't see it, but people may find your labels inappropriate even if you find them fun and harmless.

I don't see them replying to anyone else though.  Also, Atkvin is the same one that randomly replied to me on the Wigfrid thread among other people.  Now I didn't see anything wrong at the time since it was a harmless topic (the fattest way to get meat at the beginning).  Though it was a bit suspicious that he only replied to me and no one else.  Now I'm suspicious because he only replied to me on this thread.

Spare me please.  Everyone is labeling people in this thread.  It's obvious that people here are talking about noobs and trolls.  Are the people who replied to me going to reply to them?

Things players do that I dislike.

Come into a public Klei server and spout homophobic or bigoted or nationalistic BS.  I also don't like it when people are rude, or swear in general.

I swear, does everyone forget that this is a CHILD-FRIENDLY game?  If you don't want to work with someone, fine, then don't.  But calling someone a ... well, I won't say it even in a quote, ... anyhow, it's just wrong.

I could care less about griefers, but I would give a lot if Klei would put an auto-kick and ban in place for the use of a bunch of words in public chat -- frankly, I'd like people who use the n-word or call someone a *insert-standard-homphobic-"I'm manly and you're gay"-word-here* even in a whisper to get banned.

Seriously, no questions asked, no recourse, and no delay.  Just set up a 'bot and do it.

But then...

Let's avoid the word HATE in this thread as best we can.

What do you dislike the most that other players do? Lists reasons.

Here's my personal list:

  • Players that pick all flowers they come across and destroy any spider dens. This one is well known among these forums. The thing that infuriates me the most in on multiple occasions I have set up a bee box with flowers and put up a sign that said specifically NOT to pick the flowers. The flowers got picked anyway. Heck. Also, I've had it happen where a player walks away from my base with their brand new top hat. When I go to check, my spider den is nowhere to be found.
  • Players that lack vital information about resources. The type of people that don't understand that digging up an unfertilized berry bush destroys it. The type of person that plants birch trees really close to the base. People that don't have any experience with the sort of thing, in other words. Rookie mistakes with huge consequences. Hey, it was all of us at one point, but in high levels it's overwhelming.
  • Haunt-happy ghosts. I've had it happen on multiple occasions. Hound attack. It's before the first winter, so no worry about elemental hounds. Suddenly, a player dies and goes about haunting things out of bordom. They haunt a hound, it turns red. Goodbye pre-ice-flingomatic base.
  • People that leave for good with lots of resources. At least drop your backpack!

Then there's the thing I dislike the MOST.

  • Idiots that make lists of things they dislike as if anyone cares.

Here's a funny thing: in my language, for example, "c u m" means "how" or "as" depending on context. I got censored on international chats/forums before for using this adverb while speaking my native tongue and was weird at best.

Now I get what you're saying and from where you're coming with this, but it's still censorship. And I for one prefer free speech no matter the slope it may lead into. "Political correctness", regardless of the nice liberal dress up, it's still censorship. And I for one prefer to see/find from start a crazy man/woman than to suspect him/her of sanity and good will just because is forced into censorship (not to mention censorship just leads to radicalization).

Plus the argument of "children should not learn of this, they are too young and innocent" - parents should know internet is a cesspool of insanity and deprivation - game chats most included; thus thinking their kids are safe on the web is just a big and dangerous illusion. Oh, one more thing: there's this stuff called "life's school" who's 'classes', even if we don't want to participate in or regret doing so, we'll still get them no matter what. Censorship just adds in the end to the shock value when finally "the crazies' boat hits shore in all its might".

Yeah, is annoying to see swearing; yet a ban bot at first/second-or-so 'slipping' would be too harsh.

PS: we already have the kick vote in place, surely a profusely insults spilling chap will be kicked very quick.

Autobkick for language is a terrible idea. There's no reason why interactions between adults should be kept at a level some people arbitrarily deem suitable for children just because some children *might* be present. But, that said, a server admin is entirely within their rights to kick guests for offensive language or just a toxic attitude.
