Wendella, the Sleeping Wonder

Recommended Posts

Wendella is always sleeping, however she is also always sleep walking. Wendella acts like any other character; but her eyes are always closed, she does not speak and her head is always tilted forward slightly. She has medium length dark brown hair, which is explicitly not bound in a ponytail, and is around mid adolescence. Hailing from Ireland, she wears a pale plad red sweater-vest over a white collar shirt, as well as a pale red skirt and white stockings.

Functional Synopsis : Weak, but grows stronger as she wakes. Poor in melee, strong in ranged. Refuses to eat meat.

Health : 50

Hunger : 80

Sanity : 50

Wendella is normally immune to sanity drain, because she is technically unconscious. However, she has a unique Restfulness meter which keeps track of how awake she is. Her Restfulness increases slightly when she eats, increases more when she stands still, and increases greatly when she uses a tent or bedroll. It decreases slightly while she moves, decreases more when she interacts with objects and decreases greatly when she fights. At a full one hundred Restfulness Wendella is fifteen percent slower in movement and item interaction, fifteen percent weaker in attack and defense as well as has forty percent slower hunger drain. As her Restfulness decreases, she will gain power until reaching a maximum of fifteen percent increased functional ability at around a third Restfulness, at which point her hunger drains fifteen percent quicker.

If her Restfulness reaches zero, Wendella will wake up and rapidly lose sanity and hunger. During this phase her functional ability will all increase by twenty percent and her combat ability will increase by fifty. She will stay awake until her hunger drains to around ten, at which point she will collapse in place. Becoming vulnerable while she briefly regenerates back to forty Restfulness and then sleep walks once more. While Wendella is awake she will have all of her dialogue available for examining objects and interacting with the world, her voice being the higher tones of a violin. Her personality is exceptionally morose and soft spoken, however she displays an affinity for nature and monsters.

Eating cooked mushrooms and sweets will allow Wendella to regain a small amount of Restfulness, however picking flowers decreases it. Wendella also loses thirty percent less hunger while sleeping.

Wendella is fifty percent weaker in melee combat, and twenty five percent stronger in ranged combat then the average survivor. Unlike other survivors, she is capable of using certain objects as ranged weapons. She can wield and throws rocks, flint, gold, marble and moonrocks which have ascending damage. The higher tier the mineral is the less likely it will be to break and disappear after it is thrown. She can also throw ash to disorient enemies and mucus to stick them. Wendella's Restfulness decreases less when fighting with ranged then with melee, but she still loses significant amounts when she is damaged.

Finally, Wendella refuses to eat meat or eggs.

Wendella is meant to add a new dynamic to the game by replacing sanity drain with Restfulness in order to change resource management, the fact she will not eat meat also providing a challenge for keeping her fed. Her Restfulness also provides the element of keeping balance, as if she is too asleep she will be less efficient; however keeping her more awake risks her waking up completely, and also increases her hunger drain.

Her proficiency in ranged combat allows her to use darts and staves better then any other survivor, while being able to throw minerals as a more consistent method of combat. Her extremely low health, and significant Restfulness loss from taking damage making up for her ability to strike from a distance.

Hm. I mean, it's pretty well-thought out and very interesting. Of course, a new character would probably interfere with the "lore" of Don't Starve.

I would want this as a mod.

The cycle of the world suggests that people have been being abducted and dropped into it for at least as long as Maxwell reigned, because They found an envoy they could use. While Charlie is much less conscious and willful then Maxwell was, theoretically she could still abduct people as well seeing as it is what They want.

There is also the possibility for new characters to appear like Wilton or Wortox because they already were in the world, or characters like Webber who were tricked by Maxwell but ended up being indisposed. In Wendella's case, Maxwell would have likely appealed to her while she was awake for her to make the portal, without knowing she was narcoleptic. Then when she went through, she ended up sleeping on the ground indefinitely until something woke her up or she began to sleep walk.

Know how to write syntax, but not enough to create a mod unfortunately.
