How to change crockpot recipes?

I'm making a sort of Vegan mod, where you can only eat vegetables and fruits. So far raw and cooked food works but what I want to do is make it so when you add meat to a crock pot regardless of what other foods you put in it will give you something that's not Vegan. I was wondering if crock pot recipes could be changed or if I had to make every recipe from scratch with this.

For example, a valid Fist Full of Jam recipe can be 2 Berries and 2 eggs. Now, I want to make it so if you add eggs or anything other that's not vegan you get Wet Goop or some other recipe that would contain those ingredients. I hope someone understands. I'm not asking for someone to make this for me I think it would be better for me to send me in the right direction so I can learn for myself but if it's easy enough to make it for me that would be good too because I can see how / what you did to make it work. Thanks.

Edit: I'm looking at some foods in the preparedfoods.lua and I have to say, I think I'm understanding most of the stuff pretty good but I am confused about some things, for example what's weight? It only gets mentioned at the butterfly muffin recipe and it's value is 1. I assume it's how many slots it takes in the inventory? I don't know. I'll keep writing new things that I don't understand here if someone actually reads this.

Edit: Would adding no meat, no sweetener, and no eggs in front of every veggie recipe work? Where do I put these moded recipes in?

Weight stands for the food value of a food, e.g., a morsel counts as 0.5 meat, regular meat (dropped by pigs and beefalo) counts as 1.0 meat. It is not exactly the same as the number of slots that an item takes up in the inventory, since some food items have a weight greater than 1 and some less than 1.

To check if a recipe does not contain meat, you use:

return ... and not tags.meat

where ... stands for the part that is unique for each recipe.

To make sure it is actually vegan, it should not contain meat, eggs, fish or dairy.

So:

return ... and not tags.meat and not tags.fish and not tags.egg and not tags.dairy

However, since you will be repeating this a lot, I would suggest defining a local function that checks if a recipe is vegan:

local function IsVegan(tags)
	return not tags.meat and not tags.egg and not tags.fish and not tags.dairy
end

Then you use this in recipes as:

return ... and IsVegan(tags)

Thanks for the help but I've got a follow-up question. Do I just copy the preparedfoods.lua with the added tags into my mod folder or are there some additional steps to do? I've never modded so I don't really know what to do.

Yes, as I said I won't be adding sweeteners (honey) because it's not vegan.

Usually it is not a good idea to override the file by copying it to a mod folder and modifying it, but I cannot see any other way to do this. I believe @Serpens knows more about this kind of stuff, but I would suggest you to do it like this for now -- the dirty way.

Say you want to override a file Z in the directory X/Y (so the full path is X/Y/Z), then you simply create a directory with the same name (so X/Y) in your mod folder, and create a file Z in there. The game will then load the file in your mod rather than the one from the game data.

at the moment I don't have the time to look more deep into it, but copy paste a whole file is never a good idea ;)

And instead of changing every food recipe, I think it would be better to only change the WetGoop.You can change the ingredients of wet goop and the priority.
The priority is checked, if some ingredients can result in two foods.

Depends. But usually it is a bad idea. I also do not think that changing WetGoop accomplishes what the OP seeks, but it is an interesting approach nonetheless (I always like it when people are able to re-frame a problem in simpler terms, even though this does not always work out).

Anyway, I see a way around it. I didn't realize that the value returned by Lua scripts can be changed. Argh, Lua. Lua really loves globals.

Ignore my previous advice about copying the file. There is a much better way to do this.

Thank you for your help guys. I'll do a little bit at a time so my game wouldn't crash and if it crashes I can see what I did wrong.

Edit: I tried everything, it crashed about a dozen times, this is probably very easy but I don't know what I'm doing. I'll try again later.

The text that appears when a mod doesn't work? There is none, it just crashes with the message dont_starve.exe has stopped working and half of the times even without the message. To be honest I have no idea what I'm doing.

It's called Vegan Mod, I don't know why it's not there. Maybe because it's not enabled? I can only see the 2 mods that are enabled (Geometric placement and Ice fling range check), I can't seem to enable it without my game crashing either.
