The caves server doesn't initiate or open when you play in offline mode. have uploaded the log this time, not sure if it'll help or not but I removed the offline_server line and reloaded the game and both servers opened and then I entered it in again and it done the same thing. (loading only overworld)

I just installed this update on my old machine and can confirm that DST is not even launching on WXP anymore, although I don't even get an error message or log.txt. Under the assumption that your statement is correct and this incompatibility was introduced with this update, I am disappointed by the poorly written changelog (it doesn't say anything about engine changes or alike).

I hope Klei fixes or explains/justifies this problem. I just can't wrap my head around it. I don't want to mod something I can't wrap my head around.

@Mobbstar, Windows XP is 13 years old and is now considered obsolete. Microsoft has not updated or supported the operating system in almost 2 years now. A company shouldn't support obsolete operating systems.

Edit:

Gave incorrect information about Microsoft supporting Windows XP. Microsoft stop officially supporting Windows XP on April 8, 2014.

Read my post again. I am well-aware of what you said, but I want Klei to take a stance regarding this problem.

EDIT: I meant to say, "this problem suddenly appearing". Excuse me for the confusion.

Obviously I'm not Klei, and I hate coming down on the side I expect might tick off Mobbstar as I like him/her -- but, personally, I would prefer Klei put their time into not supporting an obsolete OS that even the creator no longer supports.

Again, obviously, I'm not Klei, and this isn't an answer.  I'm mostly chiming in to express my opinion.  (though I don't care enough about it to do anything other than state why I feel as I do)

Klei has already taken a stance on it, hence why there are minimum requirements.

Per Don't Starve Together Steam Page:

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS: Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8

@Kzisor, I know that too. But the changelogs don't say anything about that. Nobody ever mentioned it. That's not how you "cease support". And even if support for W XP was entirely coincidental up to now, it wouldn't have ceased without deep changes to the game. I don't see anything regarding such changes. It's just seems to have no reason.

If an OS is not supported a developer generally will not waste time or resources testing on that OS - hence things can break with no warning.

Not all changes will ever be told to consumers, that is just a fact. If developers told consumers every change that happened they would never be able to get any actual work done. Some changes are also so insignificant like the one done here, that they don't really need to be addressed. However, I will tell you why it's happening.

The reason this crash is happening is because they stopped using obsolete code.

SHGetKnownFolderPath: This function replaces SHGetFolderPath. That older function is now simply a wrapper for SHGetKnownFolderPath.

Dwarf Star from Starcaller staff is lasting WAY TOO LONG, like 2 days or even more i don't have much experience from DS with this staff but i think this is not what it should be

@Ipsquiggle,

I have new info about that menu/loading screen/clouds graphic glitch!!! I start playing DST on my secondary monitor (21" 1080p) with my Macbook Air closed and im not getting ANY of these glitches even clouds work like they should! SO i think this is problem with MacBook Air 11inch resolution which is 1366x768, maybe look into that? I hope this helps!

They recently gave the starcaller staff a generous buff to make each star last 3 days. I feel it's a nice change to actually make the star last a worthwhile amount of time.

Hmm.. It's capable of 768p, but on the MacBook Air I have here, it's native and default resolution is something like 648p, a random resolution, but 16:9 aspect ratio. The problem is probably about that, as it won't be recognised as a proper resolution, as it's unique to the 11 inch MacBook Air, I presume.

EDIT: This is not documented on the Apple site or anywhere, but it happens on a brand new MacBook, Factory Restored, you name it, it happens.

I'll get hold of it later and get the full resolution

Well weirdness of this resolution is probably the cause of my problem although i saw other notebooks with this resolution? Maybe not .)

I don't know much about screens but maybe you have older MacBook 13inch? I think they changed resolution of those in 2010.

Yeah Apple don't care that much about deeper specifications :D

Thanks for help dude!
