I've recently remembered my prototype phase's favourite Nintendo DS (as in, the device) game: "Draw to Life", and as it turns out, other's played the **** out of that in their childhood too.

For the case you don't know what DoL is:

The black shadow dude is called Wilfre. Read that sentence again. Doesn't that fit perfectly into Don't Starve? I sure think so, and I hope somebody makes a character mod for him at some point. I would do the coding if it had to be.

But what is a character without persona or skills? Here's what I came up with:

The Dark Raposa

"You are all weak, and you will fail."

* Can summon shadow minions

* Has a shadow form

* Prefers unusual things

Wilfre has a badge similiar to Woodies "beaverness", which rises when near shadow minions or using nightmare fuel. When he reaches his shadow form, it becomes visible. As a shadow, Wilfre's stats and properties affect and change each other, so you may regenerate health while sane or become immune to grue when hungry. Needless to say, it's taking a hefty toll on sanity to be in the shadow form, and ideally reduces vision by applying a "black&white" filter similiar to what Wilfre does in DoL:NextChapter. I have no idea whether all of that even works in DST code, let alone whether it'd be balanced or not. Trial and error, I guess.

Wilfre has self-drawn pages of life, which spawn shadow goo monsters like in DoL. To use most of them, Wilfre has to sacrifice nightmare fuel and/or sanity. They won't be replicas of DoL monsters, but rather DS monsters (spiders, bats, etc.). Acquiring those is a though challenge: In base DS, I'd just have them spawn in setpieces all over the world, but DST requires a way every Wilfre can acquire exactly one of each, not immediately or all at once either.

Wilfre regains sanity from insanity and nightmare creatures (despite those still obeying the puppet master and being hostile), as well as evil flowers. His own minions don't have this effect.

Many of his food quotes will relate to "raposa diet", which consists of Banya (corn-oid?), some fruit with a special name, and plain fish. No meat, no eggs.

He will reference leifs as the Deadwood boss, jackalopes as Baki critters, deerclops as Frostwinds pet, etc.

Sadly, this doesn't work with DST very well, and I commented on my personal concerns already. Do you have ideas how to make this hypothetical character work with DST?

EDIT: Changed "DoT" to "DoL". Sorry.

is it just me, or does normal wilfre look like george bush?

Lizard Goverment confirmed

You'd make a basic character mod? Awesome! Don't you dare forget about those golden buttons. Tie or shirt, I don't care, but those golden things are an important detail. I'll see about some basic code stuff for when you're done. Unless somebody with DST modding experience comes by and picks this up, because it'll take ages for me to make.

On that note, this thread be moved to the mods forum?

@Mobbstar, heheh, I'll be sure to add those buttons. Also, when you say basic character mod, do you want just the anim's or do you want a whole character that you can add the abilities to? I can do either.

Whatever you feel confident with. If you have too little time for more than the animation file, I can't blame you. There's no haste anyways.
