Why is Durian considered a monster meat?

Recommended Posts

Its smell is quite too strong to compare with that kind of imagination. TRY IT.

Imagine a pineapple, replace the smell of the coconut with something like a cut onion.

That's a durian.

No, I haven't tried one irl, yes, this is a prediction of what I think it is and yes, I did some research.

General term is just monster food.

It's mostly because of the smell, part of the thorny outside and that parts are indeed poisonous.

Mostly smell though.

Smells like butts if it's not frozen. :'D

TIP: Monster lasagna cannot be made if there is a stick put in the recipe!

Recipes that are safe with two monster foods!

  • 2 Monster Meat + Stick + Mandrake = Mandrake Soup
  • 2 Monster Meat + Stick + TallBird Egg = Bacon & Eggs (has to be tallbird as it counts as 2 eggs)
  • 2 Monster Meat + Stick + Fish/Eel = FishSticks
  • 2 Durian + Stick + Banana/Durian/Pomegranate/Watermelon = Fruit Medley
  • 2 Durian + Stick + DragonFruit = Dragonpie (Low chance Fruit Medley)
  • 2 Durian + Stick + Fish/Eel = FishSticks
  • 2Durian + Stick + Mandrake = Mandrake Soup

Good Luck! :D

It's because of the intense smell and therefore taste. My parents have experienced it once and don't want to eat it again. I have yet to try it, but look forward to the experience.

Personally, I kinda really hate that durians are monster food. It just... feels somewhat not mindful of Asians. I'd have probably less problems with it if more things qualified as monster food, like glowberries and lichen, and perhaps if more could be added that also have real-life roots like honeypot ants and liquorice... you know, to create more of a monster food spectrum than "thing that doesn't exist and is part of the weird fiction horror setup and thing that does exist and is popular in several Asian countries".

I think it tastes good.

The smell may be too intense to some people but other than that, it's good.

(yes i am asian)

Apologies, I didn't mean to say that the taste is bad. Just from what my parents described it seemed that their unpreparedness/unfamiliarity with the fruit caused the taste to match the scent. Which I figure would be a similar situation to the DS cast. Or since they ate it as part of a dish, maybe the dish was badly prepared? But I've heard a lot of good things about the rich flavor and I reckon it won't have the title King of Fruits for nothing, hence why I really want to try it someday soon.

I think they eat it with THE SKIN.
