-_- Wrong section should be in the [Don't Starve] General Discussion not [Don't Starve Together - Beta] General Discussion...

Wait - a dev posted a topic in the wrong section...? Bwahahahahaha XD

Right and wrong, yes shipwrecked is for SP Dont Starve, but there's most likely gonna be another skin reveal which is for DST only

So yea this thread should be in both DS and DST

I think we can all rest assured there will be sharks and pirates. I'm going to guess pirate pigs... parrots... crabs instead of rabbits.... instead of spiders maybe jellufish?, underwater biome with breath meter and diving equipment?

I bet you will also have to drink... coconuts or collect rain?

Also have to fight sun burn?

If they have icy biome I hope a boss is a white whale.

I'll be looking for Davey Jones locker if they have an underwater biom.

Sea serpents!!

Heres the starting screen for DS: Shipwrecked (still pissed that its standalone, I understand Together but COME ON!)

I agree with you, there's really no point in doing so, and  the only impression it gives me is that it was decided because "let try to overcome the technical difficulties and try to integrate it to the original content. Or we can make it a standalone, why play both when you can chose and have half the content."

I don't want to seem bitter but I feel slightly "betrayed" by this decision, because I see no viable reasons to make it standalone, except because it was the easy way.

I guess one of the main reasons was the water. They didn't want to change the water in the original Don't Starve - and this water isn't compatible with boats. Even if you say that you can reach the new Shipwrecked biomes through a portal or a wormhole it would look a bit silly, if you can build a boat in the old biomes and you aren't able to use it there.

Nevertheless I'm not totally disappointed. I hope the new expansion will be great and it will feature cooler monkeys :love-struck: .

How is a "forced" way to access Shipwrecked world more silly than being two complete game modes ? :(

A portal/wormhole would still be a better alternative, and I believe not too hard a thing to do, than to be unable to access the new content from the original game.

Please Klei rethink your move :<

Why are people going crazy about it being standalone?

I don't mind it being standalone myself... I thought it was going to be added content like RoG, but I'm not bothered one way or the other if it's not. If it remains standalone, I'll just think of this as "Don't Starve 2".

However, to appease the masses... Klei, rather than making it standalone, could you work something in like Up&Away did with the Shopkeeper? Maybe we have to build something... how about the Portal from DST, reuse the art, easy-peasy... and going through the Portal takes us to this new island world. To keep the difficulty up, we would have to relearn/re-unlock recipes, and start with nothing in inventory (except character-specific items) - a'la Adventure Mode. Traveling back and forth between these worlds, we either can't take anything with us at all, or again like AM, are only allowed to take X number of items with us.

Whattya guys think?

Honestly, I am super disappointed that this is well, lets just call it what it is a "spin-off" not an expansion.  I dont understand how this decison was made with the players in mind. What benefits could we possibly get with splitting the game in half? Obviously, I think the decison ultimaltey boils down to the fact that they are only concerned with the huge amount of money thry could possibly get with a stand alone versus dlc. They get to charge full price to PC users and eventually console users when they port it. And speaking of ports, look at their huge push to get Dont Starve onto mobile devices.  Mobile games largely do not do dlc, if they designed Shipwrecked to be integrated into ROG, it would have to come in the form of a free update to the mobile version whereas a standalone version allows them to just plonk it down on the app store at full price.

I don't think the player was their main concern, most people are begging for it not being a standalone, and I can see no one who actually enjoy it being a standalone, but it will come a standalone anyway.

I can't think of a honest scenario where they thought this decision wouldn't hurt the player's interest.

Its frustrating because its incredibly apparent that the players, especially the longterm ones, were a secondary focus with their design choice.  An open world sandbox like Dont Starve is always begging for new content. Its actaully quite baffling that in order to play the new content you will half to leave behind half, maybe even 2/3, of the game behind, depending on Shipwrecked's size.

If technical limitations were a problem, then they really should have designed something that could fit into the current build.  If Capy didnt want to sacrifice their creativity then they really should have maybe turned this into a new IP or something because as it stands this standalone just seems like it was just created to piggyback onto a popular franchise.
