"And the generals gathered in their masses!" Black Sabbath 'War Pigs'

Had this idea for a long time now, so I might as well make a post about it. Wanting to gather a team  to create a randomly generated moab map, where two factions duke it out to determine whose mighty king wins the generated world.

Right now all I've worked on is the world gen screen, and haven't gotten completely far with it, some tower assets, and messed with some pig animations.  I plan on keeping the workload as simple as possible, working on key components of the idea, before expanding on custom assets.

                                                                                What's needed:

Lead coder :

Work for the development in world generation, behaviors and custom assets

Lead animator:

Assist lead coder with project oriented animations and designs for overall development

Lead sounds developer:

Overall world music, and custom sounds

Assistant coders:

Aiding the lead coder to with minority tasks (such as prefab generation, components, widgets and behaviors)

Assistant animators:

Aid lead animator in minor tasks, such as creating explosion animations, custom map animations, and alternate pig and player skins.

Artists at various levels of experience:

Developing world content, such as guard towers, capture points, and anything the lead animator or coder  needs to push out the project to completion.

I have a "dream team" in mind to work on it, but I have no idea how I would intice them to work on this project with me. I don't have cookies, cash, or pizza to offer. But with the right talent, I believe we could push this mod out in two months at the most. I'm not the greatest scripter in the world, but I am already working on the artwork for the gaming assets. And getting down goals on the direction I want to take it. Hell, it could be a project to do when the people I have in mind that I want to ask to collab with could do when they are bored, and we still could get this pushed out relatively fast,

Got some Pig Factions in mind

Working on Death Pigs! OINK! Also working on some standing animations for the Pig Kings.

Once I have some scripting and artwork finished on this Faction, I'll update the page on what all the Death Pig faction entails.

Question !

would it be in bad taste if I made a faction
"American Pigs" ? They could go around saying "Murica" and have extremely over engineered gadgets that run on corn and made out of duct tape......

Ok folks, I have some stuff for you!

Now you may already have some of these, But I wanted to set you up and give you some really powerful items that are useful in modding Dont Starve

Software

DropBox

Commonly used for mod help and collabs, It's a great tool to use! Matter of fact, this is the format on what we'll use to aid in projects together.

Gimp

great free software program to do art with, you can trace art with it too! One great rule to doing Dont Starve art, is to have

an art application that you can use layers with, so you can take an image (say a lamp) insert a new blank layer, and then trace around the lamp, making your own. If you two have problems, I can guide you through some stuff.

WARNING! remember to always have the background as a transparency!

Paint.net

Another great goto art program. Sometimes I just need an image I have seen for inspiration. So i'll use this to cut around the image.

Ktools

You need this for the decompiler, You can take any dont starve prefab, unzip its animation and art work, and then mod it, rezip it and use it in your own mod, or game.

Matts Tools

converts tex images from computer jarble to a picture!

Khan Academy

this is a great place to learn how lua works, I highly suggest taking a look at it!

Tutorials

Items absolutley the best tutorial to start out with, It's Malcath, who is an amazing modder.

charecters extended charecter tutorial is the best tutorial out there for making a charecter, hands down. Use gimp to edit the body parts, In Gimp, you can add a layer over the already made body parts, and then delete the old body part (example: the tutorial has a head part, instead of erasing it, make a new layer, and draw your head, using the old head as a guide)

Danaadams charecter tutorial This is for you NoobModder! It explains how to change values in a charecter, same rules apply to prefabs!

Files

Animation and artwork

Wilson something to play around with!

Basic Pig Files This is the basic pig, animations and build

Guard Pig Build

Spotted Pig Build

Pig King Build (unmodded)

Pig Shack

Prefabs Brains and Stategraphs

These are the basic files for the pigs, Take a look. With Ktools, you can extract the werepig stuff.

Prefabs

Brains

Stategraphs

As you can see, I am more concerned about getting you guys some very powerful tools to use. I am also going to include all this info on my WarPigs collab request in the kleislist forums. All of this info should help you not only with aiding me in my project, but helping you with your own as well.

Thank you all!

I'm fairly good at sound editing, and I can do high quality recording.

I've also got FL Studio 10 with quite a lot of plugins, however I've only got one instrumental plugin.

Although I'm not that great at making music, but I'm still in the learning process.

This seems like a fantastic place for eager modders to start! If I wasn't busy with secret spooky mods myself I would contribute too.

Dont worry about that Mobbstar! Any vets such as yourself would be welcomed at any time. Thank you so much for the reply!

That's perfect my friend! I'll include you when we start our next chat meet up next week, and see if there is anything you would like to work on. Learning processes are all about experience, and this will be a great place to cut your teeth on!
