Spider King (Vanilla/RoG)

So, it's been a while since we've had a Vanilla update. Why not add a new boss mob for that? I propose to you...The Spider King! Let's face it, there's no boss mobs in the Caves, and it might be a little interesting to add one for a bit of challenge.

 

The Spider King has a 2% chance of spawning from a Spilagmite whenever you hit it with a pickaxe, rising up from the ground to fight you. Turns out that you were just mining it's back and it's a little angry that you disturbed it's sleep. Unlike the Spider Queen, the King doesn't leave behind a nest when it spawns and only one can be active at a time. He can, however, spawn spiders at the same rate that they would regenerate from a regular Spilagmite.

 

As he spawns from a Spilagmite, he retains all the attacks of Spitters and Cave Spiders, and some extra attacks exclusive to him. Following the trend of Black Widows, he's a little weaker than the queen, but has more armor with the rocky shell on his back. Don't think you're going to kite him much just because he's slow. He's got a few tricks of his own!

 

=Stats=

HP: 1100

Attack: 70

Attack Period: 3

Attack Range: 5

Walking Speed: 1.25 (1.75 without shell)

Insanity Aura: 400 per minute

Special Notes: Due to his rocky armor, he takes 50% less damage from all sources, but players can attack him with a pickaxe to chip away at his armor or use gunpowder to blow it all off. Note that he becomes faster if you choose to do so. Even then, he still retains a 15% damage reduction from his rocky exoskeleton.

 

=Attacks=

-Your basic slam attack that you get from the Spider Queen

-A web spitting attack that has the added effect of slowing players down for a few seconds

-Spider spawning from the Spilagmite on his back

-Hiding in his rocky shell for a few seconds, protecting him from all damage. Players can mine his Spilagmite and collapse it if they want to risk it and prevent him from spawning any more spiders.

-Spits webbing out to draw you near and unleash 4 lightning fast slams on you from all directions. Impossible to escape from if he succeeds, but you have a small amount of time to run away after he draws you in.

-Spitting a larger web ball at players to immobilize them for a few seconds while he catches up to you. He starts doing this the more slam attacks he misses due to kiting.

 

=Always Drops=

4x Monster Meat

2x Silk

2x Rocks

1x Empty Spilagmite (Right-Click when hovering it over Spider Eggs to make a portable Spilagmite)

1x Spiderhat

 

=Uncommon Drops (50%)=

1x Spider Crown (Basically a longer lasting Spiderhat with no sanity drain. Repairable with Spiderhats. Grants night vision.)

 

=Rare Drops (25%) (Only one will be dropped)=

1x Spider Fang (Craft with a Spear to make a deadly spear, and it lasts twice as long)

1x Web Ball (Craft with 5 Blowpipes to make 20-use Blowpipes of any type)

1x Toxic Gland (Craft with Boomerang to double usage, slow hit things down, and never take damage on return.)

1x Royal Silk (Craft with Sewing Kit to make something that repairs 25% of armor or weapon durability)

 

=Super Rare (10%)=

1x Spilagmite Blueprint (15 Rocks+15 Flint+Spider Eggs to make portable Spilagmite)

There is a boss mob, he's called the ancient guardian.
 He's talking about the caves not the ruins, in the ruins you find the ancient guardian there is no boss mob in the caves or boss music for the caves. Also I really like this idea. :3

What do you want anyways? You got your opinions, now shush! You can't expect every modder and artist in the world to jump and scream "That's just what we needed all along". Especially not Klei, they need to work on DST at the moment.

This is a good idea for a boss, but maybe not have it be another spider. I mean everything from deer (that aren't in the game) to trees want to kill you, so maybe retain many of the same mechanics and make it one of those snail things as a boss. (I haven't visited a cave in an irl year I forget what they are called)

I'm working on a mod to add new creatures to the world and thus I'm collecting ideas.

I love the spider king, specially the combat mechanics but I think more end-game content is not needed, since the game gets boring mid-spring!

How about a spider king that can spawn from any boulders after day X? Sounds more random since it could appear anywhere, and it would interact with the world. Also, day X (I'm thinking 15) would work as a deadline, after that you will be subject to random tougher encounters. (But not unfair)
