Wigfrid Items Nerf

Recommended Posts

So, as it stands, Wigfrid is primarily chosen due to the relatively cheap armor and weapon creation, saving pigskins for other things. But doesn't this seem a bit overpowered? It's her own personal items, and yet everyone else is running around with them.

My suggestion is to keep Wigfrid as the primary warrior by making her Helm and Spear only usable by her. This would help her retain the status of being a damage dealer instead of an equipment maker. I guess error messages for trying to wear them as other characters would work. Perhaps have the helmet not be the right size for others and the spear being too unbalanced for everyone but Wigfrid.

If people get really salty over this, another option is to only allow Wigfrid to use these items to their full potential. By this, I mean making the Helm provide lesser protection for everyone else and having the spear act like a basic spear for everyone else. Everyone gets to keep their cheap to make Helm and save resources by making regular spears.

Alrighty, I'm done. Respond away! <3

Wigfrid's Spear is no better then an average spear in the hands of another character, the helmet is a good alternative because of how cheap it is to make one because of the infinite amount of gold you can get at pig king (if there is one of course). Wigfrid's spear is only good in her hands because of her damage multiplier. I think she is good the way she is now, if not better then she was before, I just wish she wouldn't spawn with her gear, I can't tell you how many times I've been killed by a wigfrid camping at spawn. o_o

That's what she brings to the plate, she's a jack of all trades... in the hands of a skilled player, she's an asset, but in a group of survivors that are having trouble with food, well, her Meat-only weakness/perk is a trade-off... give her your meat (of you have trouble finding meat) and she can make you armor and weapon...

But yeah, meat from moleworms should start you off then move on to pigs then beefalo and koalefants and giants...

I'm pretty sure that Klei likes the fact that she is helpful to her friends by being able to make them decent equipment.

Especially since it's literally the only thing that she brings to the table when it comes to helping anyone besides herself.

Does no one run from people that start attacking them at the portal it's not like her spear has longer range does it? ...DOES IT?...

Actually, the normal spear does 34 damage, whereas the battle spear (in the hands of a non-Wiggrid) is 42.5. You can check the wikia
Can you list some mobs that die faster from a non-Wigfrd that wields a spear I know that black spiders still take 3 hits to kill with the battle spear.

Well a Spider has 100 health, so Spear (34 x 3 = 112 dmg) and Battle Spear (42.5 x 3 = 127.5 dmg) should both take the same number of hits in this case. However, if you take the Spider Warrior (200 hp) as an example, you'll see that the Spear takes one more hit (34 x 6 = 204 dmg) than the Battle Spear (42.5 x 5 = 212.5 dmg). With stronger monsters, you'll see a more apparent difference between the two: the Battle Spear generally requires 25% fewer strikes than the Spear.

Well thank you for doing the math and telling me that the battle spear is really helpful with stronger mobs but when I playing with a Wigfrid(s) and i'm not Wendy I usually just make a spear cause it's faster and I don't have to ask someone else to make it for me...also by the way hambat master race for the win. ^_^

Spears are pretty much beginner combat items.  By the time that it matters, you should really be using ham bats, tentacle spikes, morning stars (I think I'm the only one who makes these, lol), etc.

The helmet is pretty nice, though.

I don't think any character can be useless really. I like and often play Wes, I find him to be hilarious, but on many occasions I can prove my character to be an invaluable support to the team just by playing him well and communicating. Characters should be built to be fun to play (e.g. Wes' hilarious emotes) and to play with (big props on balloons).

It the character is a pain to play or annoying to play alongside, domething should be done about it. I personally think Wigfrid is unique and interesting to play both as an asset and a challenge

The main thing that makes the helmet incredibly good is that it doesn't require you to take off your backpack (unlike log suit).

I'd just discussed this with a friend; Wigfrid is definitely overpowered, in both DS and DST. She simply has too many advantages, which completely overcome her single drawback. Sure, she can't use some important Crock Pot recipes to restore Health and Sanity, but she doesn't need to (and she can still eat the most filling dishes), because she easily restores them automatically when fighting anything! This also makes her easily able to live off of Monster Meat indefinitely, which throws any difficulty in acquiring food out of the window (not that it's even hard for even other characters to get normal meat, and Wigfrid is built for fighting, making it easier...). Sure, she'll get automatically attacked by Bunnymen if she goes into a cave with anything edible on her, but she's a killing machine that heals from killing...

Get this, if any of her stats are low, she can simply opt to attack a spider den (even with ranged weapons, while unarmored, if necessary), to end up fully restoring all 3 of her stats, and come back from it with unspent Spider Gland loot (as well as Silk) for later, to boot, because for some reason, she heals after every kill like some sort of vampire.

She's even more overpowered in DST, because she no longer requires a lot of exp to unlock, can freely provide her very cheap (and renewable) strong items early on to everyone, and can own anyone in PVP right after spawn/on day 1.

Both Health and Sanity regen on enemy kill is too much, to balance her one has to go, I'd say Health as it's the most natural, and easier Sanity restoring is more in line with other char's special powers. But the drawback is that she'll still be able to eat cooked Monster Meat almost as well as Webber (if cooked, the Health damage is low and the Sanity damage is the issue, which can be restored by killing). You could then also reduce one of the attack or defense bonuses, or make them dependent on her Hunger. Lastly, you could apply the single on-kill regen bonus only if the mob was actually killed in close quarters melee (from the wiki, I'm assuming you currently get it for any kill)

Then in DST, you either make her equipment only usable by her, or make crafting it much more expensive. It should also be considered not to let her spawn with the items, or at least with half durability (less starting durability would also improve balance in singleplayer). With the current recipes, they're easy to make, anyway.

The "other characters can use Wigfrid's items but they lack the skill for them, so they act like the normal versions" (they would need to lose more durability per-use, so the number of uses matches up) is also decent, even if it still reduces the need for Pig Skins (I find gold much easier to amass).
