I find flowers a really crappy way to gain sanity as you might have to travel to the other end of the map just to get a few. We really need some kind of way to gain sanity faster. Maybe if chopping trees or collecting farms , hell, even crafting items gave us sanity. then the system wouldn't be quite as ridiculous.

I was thinking about characters having individual ways of gaining sanity myself. Woodie gains minor sanity from chopping trees (and loses it if you don't stop chopping obviously), Wilson gains sanity from crafting ~sciencey~ items, Webber gains sanity when in proximity with a number of spiders. Etc. Etc.

There's always sleeping, dapper clothing, and huddling next to Glommer if you have RoG enabled. And crafting items does give you sanity, if you unlocked it. Sanity is meant to be an issue and not something that can easily be dealt with. Besides, some foods wield a lot of sanity bonus (Jerky, taffy) so that can really negate the negativity pretty fast.

I agree with you sanity is hard to retrieve they should add like a flower farm though like a flowerbed that you plant a flower and get two back that gives you sanity. They should also make it so that a sleeping roll is reusable like it has a durability. I think it should lose 25% durability overnight. It would start with 100% durability so you have four nights to sleep. They also need to make it so you only lose 25 to 50 hunger instead of like all of your hunger left. You have to be well fed to sleep in a role, you have to be like full or you starve in the morning. If this was an update it would help so many players.  :snarlingspider:  :willowilson:

You guys just need to know more about the game. Picking up flowers is NOT meant to be the primary method of restoring Sanity, and you'll run out of them (in RoG, only until Spring comes) if you only pick them up and don't replant them (via butterflies). Your changes would make Sanity a non-issue and cheapen it, as everyday activities would restore it...

Read the Don't Starve wiki. There are pretty easy, good ways to restore Sanity:

-Wear clothing items that passively restore Sanity. For example, after picking up 12 flowers, craft them into a Garland headgear. It's worth noting that there's an item that repairs clothing.

-Stand nearby a currently-allied follower creature (befriended pig, bunnyman, etc). This is at its most effective when they are numerous and sleeping.

-Eat a cooked blue, or - preferably - green mushroom (Cap).

-Crock Pot dishes can restore anywhere from +5 to +50 (!) Sanity, depending on the dish.

-If you have food that restores a lot of Hunger handy (such as a Crock Pot dish), sleep, which will also restore your health, at the cost of 75 Hunger. A Tent restores the most Sanity and Health (with the same Hunger cost).

-Certain characters make things easier, for example, Willow will regain Sanity simply from being close to a fire.

If it's not enough for you, you could always install mods that help with this and make the game easier.

Also, there are advantages to having low sanity - you'll find experienced players occasionally going insane on purpose in order to be able to get certain items.

In order to replant flowers, you just need to catch butterflies using a bug net, plant the butterflies, and then viola, flowers! why that works i'll never know... In essence, you can make your own flower field if you wanted to for sanity emergencies using that method, since butterflies are basically unlimited. Just remember to catch some spare butterflies before picking the lot. 

 

But yeah, the other methods people mentioned are preferred and work effectively if you know what you're doing, and learning how to deal with such things is one of the main points of the game...

 

(However, my favourite way to deal with with sanity issues is to beat adventure mode and play as Maxwell :p his sanity boost is unreal)

For the record I don't see a question, only the possible poll answers...

 

Anyway, Sanity is actually one of the easier mechanics to manage once you're used to it.  

 

Early-Mid Autumn = No sanity restoration needed. That said, pick flowers once in awhile to keep yourself topped off. You'll want 12 petals.

 

Mid-Late Autumn = Use your petals to create a Garland.  It should be plenty to keep you topped off. At the very least you shouldn't go insane.  

 

Late Autumn/When possible - Stock up on Green Mushrooms and make a Tophat.  Cooked Green mushrooms restore sanity and they can be used as filler in the crock pot.

 

Late Autumn/Early Winter - Kill a koalefant and use its trunk to make a vest. Winter is better as the vest is twice as warm. Either way it restores a slight amount of sanity when worn.

 

Throughout Winter - Hunt and kill MacTusk, hope for a Tam-O-Shanter.

 

After Tam-O-Shanter - Never have Sanity trouble again!

 

 

Bonus Points - want to go crazy to farm nightmare fuel? Raw Green Mushrooms give -50 sanity. EZPZ!
