Well, how to start this. It is no secret that this mod's development is beyond stale.

I apologize for my several months of absence. I just got burned out from it all, especially due to the low rate of collaborations this mod had been experiencing coupled with the lack of a clear thrust towards finishing the mod, instead of just improving upon it. After a certain triggering event I'd rather not specify, I just had to get some air. I didn't plan on leaving for so long; instead, I planned on popping back after a short hiatus, as soon as I had meaningful time to put into the mod. But I ended up never having said time, at least until now.

Throughout July, I should have some to devote into U&A again. Not that much time, but some. And I'd like to see this mod reach a final state, for DS and DST, even if it means strongly cutting back on our intended goals.

With @debugman18 gone due to personal issues and @MilleniumCount also absent, I'm not even sure who (if anyone at all) is reading this and willing to put this mod back on track, but I thought I'd post this here anyway.

*sigh* I guess I owe you. I, too, gain a lot of free time in July.

Hopefully I can flesh out IRM and Alchemical Brewage quickly, so there's nothing left in the way :p

On a side note, do I need to register on github in order to contribute?

That's great to hear, I'm glad provably competent modders replied. (:

I PM'd some of the older folks on Steam, so hopefully we'll hear from some of them. Though unfortunately I don't think debugman will be able to return (personal issues, as I mentioned), and continuing the project without its lead designer/founder will be challenging from a creative perspective.

On a side note, do I need to register on github in order to contribute?

That's not strictly necessary, but it'd make the workflow much smoother.

I love this mod and I don't want to see it as many other thousands mod just thrown in the sea of Steam.

Although I'll be working on the "Creeps of the Deeps" mod, I wanna give a help, you guys deserve it for the hard work you did.

I should have some free time to dedicate also to U&A, so count on me if in the future you need any help !

Hello everyone,

I'm terribly sorry for my long absent. Things went crazy and at times I was burnt in art and gaming matters. But things calmed down and I'm willing to do stuff and shenanigans again.

I was really hoping you'd drop by (:

I propose we, early July (I really don't have the time before that), sit down, look at our beta goals, cut the fat somewhat, and get working, this time towards a (reasonably attainable) final goal. Hopefully July is all we'll need, but I should still be (even if less) available afterwards.

Thank you. ^^

Early July, sounds good to me.

I find Up and Away to be a sick joke to pull on friends when they try out Don't Starve on my steam account, which is really the only reason I'm subscribed to it. The mod has great artwork, fantastic ideas, but...

It's unbelievably difficult unless you've packed 2 krampus sacks of gear and have a chester full of meaty stew. Everything up there really, really wants to kill you, and some certain homing mobs tend to wander outside of their home biome and eventually flood the universe, at least, that's my experience anyway.

But back to what I was saying at the beginning. Every now and then one of my friends wants to play Don't Starve or they already have it, I tell them to install up and away and use it, i give them the merchant's prefab and what not, and it's funnier than sh*t to see them run around screaming in the twisted hellscape that is in the clouds. Even they get taken aback, I'll say something one of them said.

"THIS IS A CLOUD HEAVEN PLACE SHOULDNT IT BE EASY?!?"

Could you give some examples? I'm aware this does happen, but having concrete cases in hand will help to address this more quickly.

But yeah, balancing the mod content should be one of the top concerns.

Being that i had no idea what was up there and that the wiki didn't really tell me jack squat, I decided to reveal the map, and saw some sort of golden crockpot or whatever that thing is. It was clear on the other side of my cloud or whatever, so I decided to go overthere. I didn't last too long as those merm clones seem to populate half the frickin place and some speedyfast sanic tentickles were chasing me down. As an idiot, I tried picking flowers, only to find that the flowers aren't flowers at all but instead pretty spikes that again, want to kill you. I died, which only agitated me slightly as I only put it on my 70(?) day world and not on one of my longer ones (All my save spots were preoccupied so I just went with that one as it was more of a testing world anyway). Something else that was annoying is that the tornados will also pick up your followers, but it drops them at a much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much  slower rate than it drops you, and that those sheeps or whatever seem to be pissed for a longer time than they are passive.

One of my friends said the second he got up there, there was hound waves, which instantly killed him dead before he even took 4 steps. I wasn't there, that's just what he said. He did say he thought it was an absolutely wonderful idea.

But if I really wanted a mod that would kill me i would just install "Oh, s**t!"

Welp, I heard about this thread, and I'd feel shitty if I didn't at least chime in. To start with, my personal issues are pretty much solved. Although, I'm now working, and have started college on top of that. So, I have one or two hours a day to put towards hobbies, etcetera.

It looks like July is going to be my best time for me to contribute, as well. I've got three days off after tomorrow, which I can dedicate towards trying to cut the fat, etcetera. I'm a bit lost and what we were doing last, although I know DST compatibility was broken as all hell.

That is of course, if you guys want my contributions. I've left the mod in purgatory twice now. I never anticipated the mod would take off like it did. I didn't anticipate the time needed, either. Life just kind of steamrolled me and I found my vision for the mod became blurry. So. I really don't have a direction I want to take the mod, at this point. I'd just like it to be extremely playable, rather than gigantic and completed.

The best thing we can do (I believe) is culling the planned content, as simplex said.

It's very good to hear your personal problems are essentially sorted out.

I'm still very busy this week, so I'm afraid I won't be able to sync with your days off. However, hopefully July will be all we'll need to tie the ends and call it a release (doing bugfixes afterwards would be important, though).

I'm a bit lost and what we were doing last, although I know DST compatibility was broken as all hell.

I'm quite lost too, but since we need to sit down rethink what we really want in the final version (and a lot of our ideas were aiming at a grander whole), this shouldn't be too much of a hindrance. And don't fret about the DST breakage, that kind of purely technical challenge is my cup of tea.

Of course we still want your contributions. As the project founder and lead designer, your input is of crucial importance, even if there are some uncertainties to address.

My next day off is the 9th, so that'll be the best opportunity for us to get together on things. Would you guys want to discuss things here, or would you rather use IRC so that we spend less time going back and forth?

Probably IRC is the better platform for a real discussion.

Okay, so I've joined a #upandaway freenode room, so whoever is interested in discussing changes to our goals should join it to do so, if they wish to have a faster paced discussion.

Of course, replying here is fine as well.

I missed it due to sleep -.-

Just tell me the stuff you want me to do an I'll look into it.

EDIT: By the way, I'm available on GitHub now. Username is Mobbstar, I'm watching the master branch already.

Noone else was on when I was, so you guys didn't miss much.

I'll post a brief analysis of content that was planned, and we'll cut down on content from there.

I wish you the best of luck guys! I wish I could help, but I guess I'm not really in the know of everything. If there's some small and/or mindless stuff I can do let me know though. You deserve everyone's help  :)

Alright, so I've done some thinking, and done digging, and here's the biggest issues that are keeping us from release.

- Difficulty. People are complaining about the difficulty of the cloudrealm. While I feel there are quite a few way to deal with the threats, they aren't really obvious. This can be solved in one of two ways, at least as far as I can see.

1. Make things easier. Simple, straightfoward, and quick.

2. Show the player how problems can be solved. I think the Shopkeeper's journal pages would fit the bill perfectly, but that's more work instead of less.

- Incomplete content. This is stuff that is either missing code, art, or both. There are two solutions here, as well.

1. Drop the planned content like a hot potato. I don't like this, but we need to trim the fat.

2. Finish what we feel needs to be finished. Unfortunately, this may require art, which as far as I know, we're lacking in the (active) artist department.

- DST balance and compatibility. This honestly doesn't seem too bad, but it's an issue. We can take time to balance stuff for each version, or we can focus on SP or MP. As far as compatibility goes, there are some issues with the DST compatibility, but that's something Simplex has expressed interest in solving.

Please let me know your thoughts on these issues.

I'm still looking at specific content, hopefully I can get together a solid list of what was planned, and why. Should be done by Thursday, because of I have that day off.
