Sudden change of patrol - semi-bug?

I would have posted this in the Bug Tracker forum but I'm not entirely sure it belongs there.

 

Expert-Plus Story Mode: First Mission.

Post-intel-grab two guards appeared to have set up new patrol routes that collided in some manner, as they were spending extra turns shifting about each other as they came together.

 

I had been spending AP observing these paths and as a result was fairly certain about where they would go and what they would see over a series of turns.

 

However, after several turns of more or less predictable behaviour one guard suddenly chose to head the long way around to his next patrol point, despite the other guard completing his movement first (coming to a stop away from any door-way or any other potential path blocking location). Naturally the end consequence was my agent being spotted in a position that seemed entirely safe.

 

Working as intended/my fault for not path checking every turn when patrol paths collide?
