In what era exactly the characters of dont starve exist?

It seemed to me that dont starve era exist when the difference between science and alchemy is still blur, that'd be newton's era but their clothing do not resemble baroque style. If they exist around the new industry era, which is 1800's, why do the girls dressed up in seperate clothing, not dresses? And judging through wolfgang's appearance, his circus clothes would match the retro era which is around 1940's (i think)

Exactly which era has the most simmiliar lifestyle to the dont starve world got? Which era got the highest chance to be the time when dont starve occurs?

Well, the demon boss overlord Maxwell entered the world of DS during the grand san francisco earthquake fiasco. The others probably joined some time later, in uncertain intervals.

Even without the pretty extensive backstory of puzzles as mentioned by previous 2 posters, the way Maxwell dresses is pretty clearly post-WWI I'd say.  Also radios (well, radios in the style of the one Wilson has in the intro) are a 1930s and after thing.

I'd say that it's around the 1920's through 1930's. Besides, hasn't Maxwell been there for about 20 mortal years?

My headcanon was that it began sometime in the 1920's, and then all the characters were brought into the world one by one in the following decades. Wilson was first in the 1920's, and then Wickerbottom sometime in the mid 1900's.

All the sources I've found say that Maxwell's story takes place in 1901-1906 (and then onwards in the shadow realm), and that Wilson's takes place in the year 1926.
