Borderlands copied the setting from Madmax... after years, they want to keep the copyright for Madmax and were about to expire so they made this. Some guy in the production team suggested to make it less gray and so put into detail the concepts he wished to happen... they, not knowing he was actually getting all of his ideas from a game he plays when he gets home :T And so Madmax: Fury Road...
