TheBeigeLord
For me, I was playing as Wilson in part 3 of adventure mode, King of Winter. I used up all my wood in an attempt to save Wes, and those fires were too dangerous to use. I had a heat stone and a winter hat so I could go a little while without fire, but I needed to find a way to heat up. The island I was on had no trees, I would need to backtrack 2 or 3 islands to get wood. What I ended up doing was dropping my heat stone with 3 twigs around it, and lighting them on fire to warm up my heat stone. I ended up doing this several times until I found the Wooden Thing and moved on to part 4. It was the closest I've come to freezing without actually dying. The Sober Scot
Messed up really bad and nearly died to the nightmare creatures in the 2nd level of the caves, backed into a corner, armour broken, 20 hp left... Windows vista PC crashes and when I get back into game I'm at my last save point and completely fine!

TheTraditionalGentleman
There I was . . . . . . In adventure mode, King of Winter. I was Woodie, and supplies were scarce. There was a spider army to my north, and my fire was beginning to flicker away. Not only that, but I was down to 15 hunger, 30 health, and going insane. I had only one option.I grabbed Lucy and ran to the nearest forest. I began to chop. One tree down. Two trees down. By now I was getting cold. I could begin to freeze at any second. Five trees down. Almost . . . there . . . and then it happened. BEAST MODE!! I went on a werebeaver rampage, plowing through the spiders and clearcutting a forest to heal. By the time I finished, I had diminished the spider nests from around 20 to only 5. And I had higher stats upon waking as Woodie than I did when I entered the beaver. I did that at least 5 times to get through adventure mode. That's my unconventional survival story.

These seems like the best time where Woodie's abilities would shine. I never quite understood how to play with him myself. Seems he helps in collecting supplies early in the game but the forced Werebeaver full moon seems like a real hassle to me (especially since I like checking out caves/ruins). Do you just pay extra careful to be at base when he is about to turn and then stay there and let the log meter runs out?

Whenever full moon show up, I always cut down plenty of trees, and generally hunt something. Sometimes it's spiders, or sometimes it's defending my base against werepigs. I just make sure to have a tent, food, and healing salves ready for when I turn back

applebottom
What I ended up doing was dropping my heat stone with 3 twigs around it, and lighting them on fire to warm up my heat stone. Experienced same on first play of DST. There used to be no day or season indicators so I spawned in a 1000+ day server in Winter. There was no twigs or grass or flint... Everything was already picked clean or replanted god knows where. But there were loads of corpses and Willow lighters. And seeds. I survived 3 days just walking around, picking up seeds and eating half of them. The other half I would drop on the ground from time to time and burn for a bit of warmth. (All the trees were burnt too, so I couldn't "burn" them again.) I went on like this until I found the Pig King surrounded by lots of corpses. I got busy looting and didn't notice that some evil genius planted loads of tentacles around it. Funniest death I've had. And it was amusing just walking around trying to survive while a couple of players kept logging in and logging back out after seeing the server. mellojoe
Weirdobob's new favorite person everybody! Its not so much that I have a problem killing Tallbirds, cause I don't. Tallbirds are food just as much as anything else. Heck, even more so since their eggs are massively important. But, once you hatch a smallbird ... like, ... how ... you're the only person they know ... you are their protector ... they look up to you with that one giant adorable eye. Yeah... that heath stone thing is regular business when I play adventure mode. Sadly, I tend to not have all the things by that time. So, I mostly just roll over and die... Yeah, I'm terrible at survival. I know...
Ridd
On my first foray into Adventure Mode, I ended up with no way to start a fire at dusk. Without the materials required to even make a torch, I came across four Guardian Pigs with four Pig Torches. I ran around the torches for light, dodging the pigs. They would stop chasing me to relight a torch if it got too low. It was also raining, making the torches go out faster. It was pretty funny. Asparagus
out on a whim, I went out of my comfortable base into the forest... without any items except an ice staff, a torch and 2 bacon and eggs... in summer... I cooled down by standing and running around in the shade and furiously sought smoldering burnables and hunted them like witches and took them out with the ice staff... I managed to not get the forest burned and lasted for 2 days... O__O

The general lack of self-preservation in this game is one of the best parts about it. It's a miracle anyone trusts me with children.
