Hey guys, we've been fixing up some of the more obvious crashes from yesterday.  Please note that if you have old save files, some Berry Bushes and Drying Racks may have their state reset when loaded into this version.
 
Here's what we fixed in today's update:

  • Fixed a crash when some Berry Bushes are rejuvenated
  • Fixed a crash when hammering a burnt Tent
  • Fixed a crash sometimes when harvesting from a Drying Rack
  • Reduced network data cost of dryable meats

Hi everybody! As you know we've been hard at work on integrating Reign of Giants into Don't Starve Together, and we're just about ready to launch it! The main challenge at this point is that RoG is a whole lotta game and we need your help testing it to make sure we didn't break things as we converted it over to multiplayer.
 
It's not quite ready for prime-time yet, but if you want to hop in to our testing branch, we'd really appreciate letting us know if anything is crashing, broken, or missing.
 
Instructions for getting the RoG test version:
  • You must already own Don't Starve Together. (Reign of Giants not required.)
  • The game must not be running.
  • In your Steam client right click on Don’t Starve Together Beta and select “Properties”
  • Select the “Betas” tab
  • Enter the code “rogtogetherbeta” in the text box and press the “Check Code” button. You should see a confirmation message that the RoG_Together_Beta is now available.
  • In the drop-down under menu select to opt into RoG_Together_Beta. You should see a message that you have successfully opted into the RoG_Together_Beta. Press “Close”.

WARNING!
This uses the same save slots as the normal game but the saves aren't compatible. Make sure you create a new save file for your RoG test as the save files won't transfer back to the normal game.

Current known issues:
  • Bearger, Dragonfly, and Goosemoose (Moosegoose?) are still missing, they'll show up sometime soon though!
  • Moggles are missing due to technical challenges with night vision.

Major changes from single-player Reign of Giants to be aware of:

  • Fire spreading has been rebuilt to be slower/preventable but still threatening.
  • Deerclops shows up all winter long to harass everyone's bases.
  • Heat stones have been reworked to more clearly display if they'll help you or not. The graphics change to show if the stone is warmer or colder than the current ambient temperature.
  • Updated smallbird lifecycle so they can grow up in the wild.
  • Crafting menu has been altered to be more dynamic, so scroll arrows only show when needed. Mouse wheel also works on it!
  • Full moon has been retuned to 1 night every 22 days, starting on the 11th day.
  • Flingomatic "off" modes has been turned into "emergency" mode.
  • The Old Bell and Bigfood are absent from multiplayer due to their extreme destructive potential.
  • There are also many small changes and fixes, but keep your eyes peeled for anything weird!
  • We will be continuing to address balance and tuning issues for multiplayer, so your feedback is appreciated!

Dedicated server instructions:


If you are running your server through the steam interface: Simply go through the above process with the Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server in the tools list to join the rog_together_beta branch and launch the server.
 
If you are running from the command line using steamcmd:
Launch steamcmd and run:
 
app_update 343050 -beta rog_together_beta -betapassword rogtogetherbeta validate

Can you chop it with an axe?  Because that is supposed to be the mechanic anyways.  You're not supposed to attack them, you're supposed to chop them down.  If you cant chop it with an axe than report it otherwise pretty sure its intended.

Bugs:

* Bushes that have already been fertilised can be fertilised again. Upon trying to fertilise a fertilised bush, the player will say "I can't do that".

* Birchnutters are impossible to attack, even via Ctrl + F.

* If you have Glommer's flower in your inventory and you exit and then enter again, Glommer will flee and the flower will wither.

* Spiders (be it normal or warrior) won't fall into traps.

Birchnutter are indeed impossible to attack.

If you ignite a birchnut stump and stand on top of it, the fire will not be able to damage anything (be it you or a mob), also your screen will not have the "fire" overlay. Things near the burning birchnut stump will also not catch fire (or wither, then catch fire, that is).

Weve been thrashing on DST RoG for a while now in a LAN group and the number one complaint is the map is too small. Is seems like after 60 days with the map fully exposed most people loose interest. Are there ant plans to give us larger maps?

super fun game - DST + ROG- play it all the time and have kept up with all the updates. Consistently find that with each new world the longevity of the game is limited by the size of the map.Once explored interest is lost, which is generally around day 70 or at very best on 3rd to 4th season. Please give us larger maps OR perhaps wormholes across water to other islands ? XD

The Through the Ages DLC should be out soon after they're done implementing RoG and you also have the caves/ruins biomes that haven't been implemented yet.

 

As for the DLC, I'm definitely hoping for new biomes (a volcanic biome would be awesome with fire snurtles, as would a jungle biome with baboons and tigers, and maybe like a shallow water biome you can walk through and catch fish and seafood).

I 100% agree as soon as we the map is explored people loose interest and it hard to find someone who wants to keep playing. Hopefully the new DLC with caves and ruins will also have way larger maps not just new biomes

Has anyone else experienced a bug that makes things around you catch fire whenever you log-in? It's quite annoying seeing your base burn to the ground during WINTER!!!

 

I've already submitted a bug report but I'm surprised I haven't read anything else about this so far.

I experienced this yesterday as well. I logged on and all my saplings were on fire, lucky I had a flingo going.
