Mammalian characters

Recommended Posts

Couple of basic character outlines. Since they happen to converge with the existing NPCs I guess they've already been done but let's look at them.

Warren, A somewhat lapine fellow.

Appearance notes:

-Human, but with rabbit-like features

-Buck Teeth

-Eyes set far apart.

-Leg-sticks are thick at the thighs and have long feet.

-Has two short tufts of hair that resemble short rabbit ears.

-Brown hair, which turns white in winter and black during insanity.

-Default outfit includes a waistcoat and white undershirt. An inverted point at the back gives the appearance of a cotton-tail.

Stats:

-Moderate Hunger

-Moderate-low health and sanity.

Traits:

*Rabbity

-Gains a small speed boost for a short period after losing sanity (From darkness, monster auras etc.)

-Bunnymen grant 20% more sanity.

-Rabbits and beardlings will not run from Warren and can be picked up. Attacking a rabbit will cause it and all close rabbits to flee as normal.

*Vegetarian

-Eating meat and meat based items (Not including leafy meat) causes him to lose sanity in proportion to their hunger restoration.

-Can craft "Rabbit Food" from Food menu, using 4 carrots. Restores a small amount of sanity, as much hunger as 5 carrots and 5 sanity. Can also be used to bait rabbits or befriend Bunnymen.

*Looks tasty

-Enemies that autonomously eat meat from the ground (Spiders, Hounds, Pigs) deal 25% more damage on a hit.

-Pigs do not grant a sanity boost.

Character/Vocal notes:

-Examining meat almost always provokes a negative reaction.

-Says top hats make him feel "Kind of claustrophobic somehow."

-Gags often reference Bugs Bunny/Roger Rabbit/Max, other cartoon Rabbits.

Wallow, someone with piggish habits.

Appearance notes:

-Human but with porcine features

-Slightly hunched posture

-Flat upturned nose

-Little piggy eyes

-Broad jaw with underbite

-Slightly protruding tusk like teeth

-Coarse black hair

-Normal outfit includes a stained untucked shirt. A split seam on the back and a loose thread gives the impression of a curly tail.

Stats:

-High Hunger

-Higher than average health

-Lower than normal sanity

Traits:

*Loves to eat

-Gains sanity from eating equal to 10% of hunger restores

-Hunger drains 33% faster.

*Unhygenic

-After taking damage, wounds will get infected, causing small but regular damage. This process can be stopped using health-restoring items such as spider glands. (Not including food.)

Character/Vocal notes:

-Always has something good to say about food, even stuff with negative effects.

-References to cartoon pigs such as Porky.

-Ponders about building stuff from straw, logs and rocks.

Worag, The Hybrid.

Appearance notes:

-Human/Beefalo Mix from some kind of science experiment gone wrong

-Husky and buff. visibly beefy arms like Wolfgang

-Wavy red hair, which grows bigger and fluffier with time, sticking out from beneath hats.

-Default outfit is a set of farmer overalls from which wool grows and protrudes from behind various outfits.

-Small beefalo horns

Stats:

-Higher than average hunger

-Higher than average health

-Lower Sanity

Traits:

*Strong as an Ox

-Melee attacks, included with bare hands and tools, deal as much damage as a spear if they would otherwise deal less. Does not change damage with more damaging weapons (Tentacle spike etc).

-Item stacks are 25% bigger. (So you can carry 50 twigs, 25 logs or 12 planks in an item slot.)

*Wooly

-Grows hair and wool in three stages at the same rate as Wilson/Webber's beards grow.

-Wool provides insulation from cold at a similar rate to Wilson's beard but each incremental stage also slows her movement by 10%/20%/30%

-Using a razor she can shave wool off (producing beefalo wool) in stages.

Character/Vocal notes:

-Scottish, with a mild accent.

-Refers to a past career as an agricultural veterinarian/cattleherd.

-Has mixed feelings about science related gizmos.

-Comfortable around animals and blithe about dealing with manure/guano.

-Possibly voiced with bagpipes?

I think they have the potential to become great character mods, but I'd be reluctant to have them in Don't Starve. I just don't feel they fit Don't Starve's modest style the way the other characters do - I'm not even entirely sure how I feel about Webber! Humanoid characters just seem out of place to me.

... Maybe I've become an old boot before my time, haha. :p

Worag seems a little overpowered, but great ideas!

Much appreciated.

I'm not really sure what to add to balance out her concept. Further reducing her speed at greater fur levels could easily go from a hindrance to an annoyance.

Perhaps something along the lines of increased clothing/tool wear?

One thing I've had at the back of my mind for Worag would be the idea her wool starts to intrude into her inventory slots as it grows, reducing her carrying capacity by up to three slots at it's worst. (If your inventory is full, then stuff gets popped out at dawn as it grows.
