Lag/pause whenever anyone joins server

   the issue is whenever someone joins my server there is a 3 second pause/extreme lag with lots of sling back. After this new person connects things are fine again.

 I got my dedicated server setup in a custom directory and I play the game from this same machine. I had an issue with nat loopback on my router originally where I could not connect to the server from the lan. I installed shibby tomato firmware on it and that corrected it (I think there was an issue with nat loopback maybe).I am running the server 1 port down from the default and setup port forwarding.

My machine is an i5 current gen with 16 gb or ram. CPU is around 12% tops . Internet is 100 mbps down 10 mbps up. Machine is networked via cable not wireless. Any thoughts?

@jrose78, This isn't an issue specific to your setup, it's an issue generally. Not sure why it's affecting you more noticeably than most, but basically when a player joins there's a spike in network activity because it sends all the stuff to get them started. Hopefully this may be improved in the future, but for now I don't know if there's anything you can do about it.

Good to know everyone is aware of this issue.  I understand its beta that why I am posting about it. Not complaining ;)  .  What I find strange is for example I am in the swamp and someone connects just as a tentacle spike is about to attack. I press the right arrow and hold it figuring once it unfreezes it will place me to the right of the tentacle spike but instead I am dead. Its like the lag is not taking any actions I do into consideration and the monsters don't have the lag. If the game is going to lag it should lag fair if that makes any sense.

Well, 3 seconds seems a lot to me, do you have a lot of mods installed and does other players on your server get the same issue ?

 

No mods and I would "assume" other players are seeing the same lag as they start complaining around the time someone joins. I originally had connection_timeout = 10000 and moved that to 8000 to see if maybe that had something to do with it.   

  Can someone answer a question for me. How do I check what the updates are for the dedicated server. How do I know what version I am on or should be on? Thanks

Hey dude ;)

I don't know why this is happening, but connection_timeout line only affect the delay before someone get forced disconnected (8000 = no signal for 8 seconds will disconnect the player)

For updates, go on steam and read the changes on DST.

If you're launching server through steam, I think update will occur automatically. If you're running on dedicated server with anonymous login, I don't know if server will be updated, maybe a dev can explain ;)
