Few questions about meteors

Recommended Posts

Meteors fall on to the rocky biome, so

  • Do they land on previously rocky turf which is now empty turf?(Removed by pitchfork)
  • Do they land on newly planted rocky turf?
  • Do they spawn only if there are not too many boulders nearby?

@TommY27, Specifically the way they work is that at world generation, some number of "meteorspawners" are placed in the world. They are invisible, and cannot be moved, destroyed, or created by normal game mechanics (by that I mean anything short of using the console). World generation places 0-2 meteorspawners in each rocky area, basically.

Each meteorspawner picks an intensity and delay for the next meteorshower. It waits for the delay to be up, then unleashes a certain number of meteors, over about a minute, based on the chosen intensity, up to 60 (15 tiles) away from the meteorspawner.

So yes, they will land on previously-rocky turf, but no, changing the turf does not affect meteors at all, nor does the number of rocks on the ground. Falling meteors destroy stuff they land on, including previous rocks, so that's what limits the number of rocks.

If you want to avoid meteors entirely, you should be pretty safe if you settle about 3 screens away from any rocky areas.

They should do more with meteors like make the moonrocks needed to craft special rare armor or weapons. They should also make the area that is being affected by the meteors light up a dim dark red. Anyone a few screens away should be able to hear or feel the meteors falling and if it's completely dark out people should get some cue that meteors are falling somewhere. This is only after the meteors drop something of worth. It would make exploring more interesting.

There was this thing...

A wormhole in the meteor-infested area...

While the heavenly rocks were bombarding the land, I jump in the worm hole, a shadow of a meteor appearing just a few steps from the hole...

When I emerge out of it, somewhere near the opposite pig village from the pig king, a meteor struck and destroyed a pig house...

O___O
