Recently purchased RoG - summer suggestions

Recommended Posts

Now that I've finally experienced what the fuss is about, I'm nodding. RoG summer is both boring and due to overheating + risk of wildfires not very inviting to get anything done. For the most part, I don't think it's hard, just that there's too little the game offers to not just get through it, but live through it also. So, I have a few suggestions.

  • A temperature gauge. It's kind of odd there's not one already, considering every other state of the character is expressed in gauges. Just shove the other ones a little to the left and place a thin thermometer on the utmost right with the character's ideal temperature in the middle and some distance upwards for overheating and some distance downwards for freezing.
  • Currently, the only thing you can fish for are fish (aboveground). A little variety could be interesting and with the addition of milk, I'd like to suggest that water (in a bottle) can also be fished for. It wouldn't help as much as ice to keep cool, but it would have the benefit to be available all-year around. Definitely a problem of summer is that the good stuff to get through it (ice + blue gems) is not or limitedly available during summer. I don't mind looking back and thinking "yeah, going exploring when I had no hound attacks for ten days was not smart" but looking back and thinking "yeah, not spending several game days twenty game days ago on collecting ice/getting an ice box was not smart" is bothersome.
  • An irrigation system would be nice, like a sprinkler system with a water tower reservoir on top that has the same range as the ice flingomatic but sprays water at regular intervals all-around rather than selectively when prompted. The Spring rains would become a little more balanced between beneficial and bothersome this way too, essentially providing a "free" round of collecting. Of all the trouble I didn't expect in summer, it was starving because the ice flingomatics don't help out with farm-farming. Poop got me through, but poop's also needed to prevent wildfires, as fuel, and when lit on fire makes for a quick Dragonfly sleeping potion so not the entire base or forest will be lost. Combined with the expensive upkeep of ice flingomatics, it'd be nice if there'd be an alternative that keeps the farms going and requires (aforementioned bottled water? +) ice instead of fuel. Harvesting while the sprinkler system is active will of course increase wetness.

Thanks! I'd been considering enhancing my gameplay with a few mods and this one looks great. (Though this is not to say that it compensates for the official game having a very boring summer that needs to be improved.)

Some tipps: If you wanna wander around in summer make an ice hat in early game or chilled amulet
in late game, wear them a bit until you're chilled again(you can repair ice hat with ice) One of the special things in summer is that
cacti bloom. You can get 50 HP by cooking a cactus flower with 3 vegetables(cactus flesh is also a vegetable).
You can extinguish wildfires with poop/ice by dragging it item on the thing thats about to catch fire. You can also
just click on it to extinguish it with your hands(-5HP). The ice-fling-o-matic should normally work like a sprinkler and
should prevent your plants from withering. If the summer giant appears, leave 20 ash on the ground and move away.
Hope this helps you a bit.

By now, I'm largely familiar with these tips. Give or take the ice fling-o-matic: I have it on all summer but it only hits my crops when I plant them. Not afterwards and that's when they grow into grass. It appears other people also have this problem, so, hey, if I'm doing anything wrong here I'd love to hear.

Sounds like a  bug, a active fling-o-matic should be enough  to cool your plants. Also there's a fuel meter on it.
You need to fuel it with stuff like wood or it will run out of power.
