Ancient Guardian Dead, No Horn Dropped

Recommended Posts

***(minor) SPOILER ALERT***

I finally managed to survive long enough to make my way down to the Ruins and kill an Ancient Guardian. Took some gunpowder with me for the kill, and several shots went off around him but he still survived. I had to leave there before finishing him off. When I come back, I see the Large Chest dropped next to a bunch of Spider nests, with cool stuff inside. So I guess the spiders killed him off for me. But no Horn was to be found nearby.

Why wasn't the Horn dropped? Do you have to get the kill yourself for it to appear? At this point, I can't return to the surface without the horn, because I need it to make a Hound Turret to survive. The Winter creatures and hound attacks are too much to handle at the surface anymore.

First of all, if you've gathered enough resources to make it to the ruins, you should have a ton of hounds teeth for tooth traps. Make a huge field to run the hounds through as a good defensive measure.

I wouldn't think that the horn was flammable but maybe it is? And that's why you didn't get it. Did you get the meat he drops upon death? Or did he die close to the edge of the map? Maybe it fell into the abyss.

The best way to ensure you get all the loot from any boss if you're using gunpowder is to use 1 less than what it would take to kill them. Then finish them off with your spear or other weapons. But it sounds like that horn is gone forever!

*EDIT* I just seen the spider took him out. They definitely ate the horn. The rest of what I wrote is still good tho. It's good advice!

The Hound Turret is like useless. Giants will wreck it in a few hits and it won't do much damage, and 'bout hounds, as it has no AoE, it will shoot targets aggroed on the player randomly, making it a very painful and long fight with the hounds as it takes three hits from the turret to kill one regular hound. Rely on tooth traps instead, make short work not only of hounds, but giants too. In case of Dragonfly (if you got RofG on) you just gotta make that boss eat 20 ash then kill it with 14 gunpowder. Makes short work of him.
