Enabling players to ping your server (Not just "? ? ?")

When choosing a server to join, at least 40% of those listed at any give time show a ping value of ???. Had some difficulty getting players to join my server, so I assumed it had to be the connection. After having a friend verify mine was listed as ???, I poked around the forums and found that joining a server doesn't necessarily result in a bad ping, just that the game can't directly ping the server. So instead the ??? is assigned to the value.

 

A better fix looks to be in the works, but for now one can remove the scary ??? from their server by forwarding UDP traffic on port 10999.
