Have Giant Spawning Make Sense

Recommended Posts

A couple weeks ago, while I was playing Don't Starve for the first time in a while, I had the bright idea to surround my base area with walls every other tile, so that I could enter, but the Dragonfly wouldn't be able to unless it destroyed the walls first with its less powerful attacks, however, somehow the Dragonfly managed to spawn INSIDE of my base, making it impossible to get him out without killing me. I think there should be some sort of check to make sure it's physically possible for the creature in question to come from off the screen to the area it's spawning in.

Yet at the same time, as inconvenient as it is, it's more random and fun that way. Still I guess such a thing wouldn't hurt. I just don't think much of those sort of things (Scooby-Doo logic) I suppose, so it never bothered me.

This is an issue that happens in many games, unfortunately. I don't know if it's intended to avoid camping or just to make fun of gamers, but I agree that there should be some sort of "safe" place, where monsters (like Hounds) or giants don't spawn.
The check could be done but what would you have to do in order for that to happen? Perhaps a certain structural item that prevents creatures from spawning in a certain area, using the same logic the ice flingomatic uses as regards diameter range check? If so, you could only make just one of those, otherwise it could be exploited to bring monster spawning down to nil.
