Lots of random mod ideas

Hi, I thought up a lot of mod ideas that I figured I might as well share in case anyone wants to make them (even if i end up making some eventually, i certainly wouldn't make all of them). Some of them might already exist.

Diversity and realistic-related:
- can plug up sinkholes with lots of rocks or a shovel (but destroys the shovel if not using rocks; the same mod should be able to create a sinkhole by destroying a shovel)

- banana trees can be planted

- as appropriate, a hammer, shovel, etc. should need to be used on food (ex. shovel to scoop out the insides of a pumpkin, hammer to smash wheat into flour, make juice or turn ice into crushed ice).

- using a hammer on a live animal creates bone shards or blood; from there we can use blood as an ingredient to make some new items like blood soup, blood pudding, blood sausage.

- bat or hound trap = bunny + bunny trap

- can bait bird trap with meat/fish (unsure if possible already)

- make fishing net from beard hair or silk; more fish types (no huge ones though, but like shrimp, eels, seaweed etc); fishing rod works in the ocean (does it already?); catching bigger fish depletes fishing rod/net faster

- juice/gravy can be made from meat, vegetables, etc. using a hammer and ice. ice can be used in the crockpot as ”water”. adding juice to ice makes crushed ice (slushies etc.)

- ideas for more food: onions, potatoes (they look diggable like grave mounds but slowly grow more around the same area to create a potato field; takes potato to grow potato), leek, gourds, oats, wheat, algae (harvestable from ponds; acts like flowers when eaten), rice (requires care somehow) etc.

new food item ideas from that:
- fish soup, meat soup, fruit soup, etc. (meat or fruit + juice or ice + onion, mandrake, carrot, or other vegetable)
- milk soup (potato, leek, mandrake etc. + milk)
- pancakes (flour, oats or potato + goat milk + egg or meat)
- flatbread (flour, oats, or potato + egg)
- sushi (ice + rice + fish + maybe algae)
- fishballs (fish + flour + egg + milk, ice or onion)

- can feed grass to rabbits, beefalo, bunnymen and the deer things to befriend them (requires more than one grass). can feed seeds or meat to the baby giant bird thing to befriend it (requires more than one seed).

- bunnies and bunnymen give fertilizer if fed enough carrots or grass.

- buildable ice house (lots of rocks + hay/grass + wood = bigger freezer). also buildable haystack which you can also store ice or milk in to make it last longer (but this can catch fire if a lightning strike). the haystack can hold less compared to the ice house and doesn’t keep things as fresh for as long, and eventually degrades and disappears, but you can sleep in it.

- straw or down mattress that disappears after a certain number of uses.

- wool-only sweater and hat; requires twigs and wool (twigs for knitting needles)

- slingshot to throw rocks

- cherry tree that blooms in spring and gives fruit in summer; maybe other fruit trees too, like pears.

- spider eggs left on the ground for about 1 season turn into spider nests (even without you having planted them)

- candles can be made from honeycomb (if you don’t want to make pigs, rabbits, and bunnymen sometimes drop tallow). these can be placed on the ground to light up the area for a while, just like a placeable torch.

- more flower types

- more bird types (ex. sparrow-sized or owls) but no new colours so the feathers stay the same. owls are fed rabbits or bat meat instead of seeds.

- shoes (walk faster, stay warmer) = pig skin or dried fish (fish skin) + silk

- if pile of wood on the ground consists of 10+ logs, it looks like an actual woodpile/stack of wood instead of just one log

- bicycle = gears + twigs/logs + gold + pig skin

- portable heater = doodads or batteries + gold + rocks, degrades over time.

holiday / seasonal etc. feelings:
- ice lanterns = ice + honeycomb, candle, grass or twigs etc. these work the same as normal candles but maybe give off more light.

- gold + honeycomb, candle, etc. = yule star (lantern that gets put on the ground, maybe can’t get destroyed by giant monsters)

- beechnut trees or leaf-less trees can grow moss (purely a visual mod)

- evergreens drop leafy sprigs/branches (so ex. those + berries, pinecones, grass = wreath headgear). that or simply grass takes the part.

- giant yule goat (giant bonfire that lasts for days) = tons of grass + leafy sprig

- creatable igloo (only requires lots of ice) which can be slept in all throughout winter.

- kicksled = wood + gold (makes you move a lot faster, but only in winter)

disabled people related:
- double (or so) the icon size for inventory icons.

other:
- some ponds can be modded into natural hotsprings, which restore sanity but cost time.

- be able to create ponds somehow?? (shovel + lots of ice + fish?)

Let's not forget the potato cup

I like the plugging sinkholes idea, but digging a whole, unexplored cave including ecosystem with just a shovel is supposed to be realistic?

I don't like making things exessively complicated, even if it's realistic. Just from the coding-side, some of these ideas are horrid to me, regardless of their realism.

You get a pumpkin cookie for the cool potato crop concept though!

I don't see much point in a matress, you can just drop a bed roll on the floor.

I may look into that spider den idea. The same should be done for honey combs, meat bulbs, etc.

I don't see a point in more flower or bird variants, if they are no different after all. Unless you're asking for more visual difference.

I've skipped over most of your ideas because they are just too minimalistic in my opinion btw (does not apply to all unmentioned ones).

About the icon sizes, you already made a topic. It should be discussed there.

Keep in mind that this is just my blunt, only once considered opinion on the individual suggestions.

A lot of these ideas have already been implemented (some by me such as additional birds and berries). There are also wheat, lemon trees, potatoes, etc already done in other mods. I may implement the spider den idea as I have already done the same thing with pinecones. Eels can be found in the ruins. Overall good ideas though. They all add little something's that add to the world. Owl's were actually in my to do list, but went the way of the deer I was working on too. Not to say it can't be revived. I am all for adding as much to the world as possible.

If you need help finding mods that have specific items you listed already, I can point you in the right direction.

I forgot to note that even though I've played the game a lot I am really awful at it so I haven't explored so much and don't know everything that exists. (If it weren't for all the mods I would never have survived even 100 days haha!!). As for mentioning the icon thing, I didn't mean to start a new discussion on it here, I just meant it's included in my "list of ideas I had". I also know that some are able to be done with other mods but these are just my ideas for the same effect in that case.

It's okay if you guys think my ideas are bad, I don't even think all of them are good. I just thought for example "why do we have a bedroll but not a mattress when people 200 years ago slept on straw mattresses, and we have floorboards?". Not particularly "we need more sleeping items".

I didn't know about the wheat and lemon mods, thanks!! I used the additional bird/berry mods for a bit, but I seem to recall it was more like a recolour, and I was thinking more like actual different types (but I can't remember).
