Is the pc version better than console?

Recommended Posts

The computer version of any game is almost always better than the console version. This also applies for don't starve.

I would buy the steam bundle, perhaps wait for it to go on sale.

And please refrain from posting the same thing 3 times.

I own don't starve for my ps4 and am thinking of buying the dlc is it worth it or should I buy the steam bundle?

First, was it really necesarry for you to post 4 threads about this? :D (jk, I know it's some kind of mistake you did) Secondly, I feel like Reign of Giants is absolutely worth it. I don't know if Reign of Giants is available on console, and if so, just buy it for console. If not, you might want to think about getting it on PC. ;-)

*insert elitist pc master race statement here* ;)

Oh, and the pc version is getting Don't Starve Together (earlier than consoles/if they get it at all), multiplayer DS! It's currently in closed beta. If you'd like to play multiplayer consider buying the pc version.

If you get it on steam then you get access to Dont Starve Together sooner, that is if it even ever gets added on to PS4. Plus PC version has mods which adds alot of cool stuff. Like more characters. PC version will always be ahead of PS4 in some form so it seems. Well the rest is up to you...

I got the console version first, and then got the steam version to be ready for Don't Starve Together and to try out the mods. The mods are really fun, and I'm glad I got to play them, but for me personally I really enjoy sitting on the couch with a controller and the game at full 55" glory. (Although I admit the mod to organize your inventory is really, really awesome.)

There are little differences that can change gameplay, but I think they more or less balance out in the end so they probably shouldn't influence your decision. For example, in the Steam version your inventory is effectively one slot larger since you can "hold something in your hand," whereas on the PS4 version you can freeze the game while you contemplate your inventory with R2,

Reign of Giants is available for the PS4 so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ultimately, it's about Don't Starve Together. If you don't care about that, I guess my recommendation would be for the console version. I'm glad I have both, though, because I am so excited for DST that I can barely sit still!

you know you can do that on PC too, right?

I personally just like using the computer, keyboards make me feel more at home.

Depends on the experience your looking for.  The console version is where the tagline "uncompromising wilderness survival" is actually true.  PC is great if you just want to mess around (mods, console commands, the most ridiculous world settings).  I think both versions have value.

Then there is DST coming to PC first, but that's like a different game.

I can't really speak to Reign of Giants as I am still playing vanilla Don't Starve (please don't throw any rotten vegetables!) but having learned to play Don't Starve on the PS4 there are some things I'm having a LOT of difficulty with on the PC version. Perhaps this is just me, and it could probably be fixed by hooking up a game pad to the PC. But I would say if you're curious about Reign of Giants go with the Steam bundle as I hear that people who already own that will get Don't Starve Together for free.

I'm going to be honest, I'm very confused about your post.

I always wonder if all my posts come off like that.

I was just trying to say that there is a lot more ways to cheat on PC then console.  Customizing the experience is great, but sometimes it's nice to just play the game the way it was originally balanced.

Having both versions is great because it's like you get more save files to work with and if one of your systems breaks you always have another to fall back on.

I'm seriously confused though, how does playing on console help that at all? I mean, console commands are disabled by default, and so are mods, and world generation customization, so if you literally just open up a clean install of don't starve and click "go" you're getting an experience balanced exactly like the console.

Am I wrong somewhere in there?

No, but I think it only comes down to what someone's home setup is like and playing through the methods they find the most comfortable.
