Question About Adventure Mode

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I plan to play the adventure mode in my 110 day 2nd world.

I just have a tiny weeny question about it.

Usually in sandbox mode I take my time to gather resources, stockpiling food, enjoying my time. Is this play style can work in adventure mode? Or is it better to just do the essential and using nomadic style? Because I hear somewhere that the longer you play, it'll become harder and harder. :wilson_ill:

Is that a cave in adventure mode? Because thanks to this forum I learnt that getting lightbulb is important for torch replacement. If there is, I'll prioritize searching for cave first.

Is the map different each time I play? Or is it fixed and the only thing that randomize is the stage?

Thank you so much for the future reply, And feel free to post your opinion. :wilson_goodjob:

And if you don't mind, please keep the spoiler as little as possible if you can. :wilson_wink:

Same for the time...But it's up to you and to how you are good, for king of winter, stockpiling ressources is a waste because of the non regrow of the ressources...Every map is different but try and you'll know, dying in AM doesn't do anything special...

No cave

Is the map different each time I play? Or is it fixed and the only thing that randomize is the stage?

It is pre defined presets but the order and the stages are random(except two special preset stages : 1 : Random, 2 Random, 3 : First static world 4 : Random and 5 : other static world.).

Thank you so much for the future reply, And feel free to post your opinion. :wilson_goodjob:

My opinion is you should try it, restart until you find it boring and come later and retry until you got enough skills to beat it(it can take time but it works...the hard way! But not so hard, you'll find that AM is not so different...just think of a presets world...)

And if you don't mind, please keep the spoiler as little as possible if you can. :wilson_wink:

Hope i didn't spoiled too much and broke your strength to beat it!

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply!

I see. So you mean it'll be better to just try it myself huh? Hmm... Make sense.

So each stage will need different strategy and play style so if I don't want any spoiler I better try it?

I just want some general idea about difference between AM and SBM. Guess not so much different if I get it right.

It's a shame tho about cave.

Ookaay. Thanks so much orian for the reply and answer!

And anyone if you have some other pointer or opinion, feel free to tell me!  :wilson_love:

For the most part, I rushed AM. Once I found a nice relaxing world I pre-built as much as I could and stocked up on some essential items (jerky).

Each world has its own challenges, some have limited resources, others constant winter, but they all want to kill you so like sandbox! It's fun, so give it a try, just expect it to be hard and maybe a little frustrating at times.

but don't be feared by the difficulty, cause fear is relative, i tried a lot(50 death) and gave up, finding it too hard...Never wanted to restart cause of "it will be too hard! Useless!"

One time, i wanted the last chara and go to AM, finished it easily...

What? Isn't if we go to adventure mode we must restart from the start? What do you mean stocked up and pre-build item?

What? Really? 50 death? Wow...

That just make me down a little bit. -_-

Find a world that isn't too difficult. Two Worlds is good if you get it your first shot. I used the Game is Afoot. I settled in and built both science machines then found resources and built a second alchemy engine but didn't place it so it stayed in my crafting tab as "place". I treated that world like a SB game. Prototyped everything I could, including Miner's Hat. Then I did what I would normally do as far as setting up an outpost. Crockpot, few drying racks, icebox... Grabbed all the things and placed them, went back to base and made sure I prototyped as much as I could and had larger things pre-built then went to the next world.

After that, I rushed the things and placed them. At key points between world's I prepped for what I thought might be most useful in the next to take with me.

It's definitely a trial and error type of gaming. Expect to die at least a few times, if not 50. But its well worth it and alot of fun too!

When you enter on the AM you lose everything from your character, even recipes that he knows, so on the first chapter is a good idea if you can learn all the recipes you think will be usefull, and build some structures but do not place them on the ground, let it to place it when you need it, and when you travel to the second world you will save those recipes and structures you haven't build yet, every time you pass through a new world you gonna get a chance to carry with you 4 items ( you don't need to carry characters especific items, they will be with you on the next world with you anyway), and in every world there's some itens that are more usefull than others, like or food or light source, etc, to know about what worlds is most valuable resource to bring with you without read spoilers, you gonna need to try by yourself, so you'll need some time to that, i did AM on the second try, but i've read some spoilers and a knew what to do, but anyway i don't think it's that hard.

If you are stuck with King of winter for your first world, stockpiling is all but impossible unless a very senior player. By then anyways, it's better to leave, since stockpiling fails in ALL worlds since

you can ONLY TAKE FOUR ITEMS WITH YOU ANYWAY.
Better to take pre-built structures with you instead no matter what world.

Yes, caves do not spawn in Adventure mode. If playing with the RoG add-on, many features like that also will follow you, but not caves.

if you fail the 5 world challenge, it randomly selects your first three worlds again, as mentioned earlier.

Yea I'm planning to do that too. maybe hanging around few days for prep. I just worry if I stay too long it'll be difficult (someone say that)

Actually, stay in a long time on a world in adventure mode is not recommended because it'll get harder or it's just not necessary and just wasting my time?

In second try? wow thats cool. This is my second time and already not sure.  :wilson_laugh:

Well that means I must depend on torch and miner hat then. It's just wasting too many resources.  :wilson_hurt:

Wow so if I died in 4th chapter, I must replay it from stage one?

Yes. But if you get to the fourth world, chances are your skills will not let you fail it. It's that last world you got to look out for, no spoilers.

Yes, the worlds get incresingly difficult as time passes, notably because in ROG, of seasons. Some are quick and brutal changes you don't expect that will **** you up badly. Treat your world as if you're not gonna see it again ; Because you're not gonna see it again.

I myself try to flee each and every world before day 10. I completed adventure mode 3 times so far, 2 in RoG, and I took about 20/10/5 deaths, respectively.

My one RoG AM weakness is how do you handle KoW as a first world in regards to food?

I still have problems with getting enough jackalopes as they don't normally pop up (in the much shorter day) within the first few days if you place traps, and waiting for them to appear to bait kill/trap them means not getting those other desperate resources those first few days.

Well in KoW personally never go with jackalope besides the first 2 for a hat. My main problem are twigs and grass. I move around by considering nothing as permanent, so I burn down trees to keep warm, and even twigs, berry bushes and the rest. I don't stop for night either, focusing only on getting them things.

As for food, I go for monster meat, since it's abundant and I need to keep my sanity down for the obelisks. Nightmares are no problem besides at night, and being low on sanity doesn't stop me from eating more.
Of course, the best solution is that Koalephant, with his 8 meat and possibility for a vest. Plus, I get can so much sanity back by prototyping easy things and picking flowers that some monster meat is no big deal - and don't forget the gland that most spider drop.

Mushroom in a last-resort case, but I have to admit starving/sanity is never my problem in AM, health is. I get by thanks to eventually making a crock pot, but in the latest case of AM, I rushed so much I finished without one.

Gotta go fast.

Also, I am currently attempting a mod that I made (All night adventure mode ). The twitch streamer Flare2v, a true pro, is attempting with Wes. It's very interesting to see, he's currently in world 2 with a dire situation.
I am using Wilson so I have way, way less problems than him but still it's nearly impossible, but so, so much entertaining. Do other people want the mod?

How do you carry those four items with you from world to world?

Only once has a little box popped up and asked me what Items I wanted to take and that was after I had got to the 5th world and was going to the Epilogue. Every time I play it, I try to touch the Thing and all it's parts in various places to see if it will let me place stuff, and it never does.

I've played through AM by console spawning the 4 items I'd want to take with me if I could (miner hat, cane, jerky and silk, usually), but it feels unsatisfying to cheat my way through it. I want to do it the proper, hard way, but it's even harder if you can't take things with you. Yes, I place all the things like firepits, crock pots, etc, but there is no way to place canes, etc.

You should only have to drag the things over to the wooden thing, there will be the option to right click as "place". Once you have all the pieces in place, activate it. It will ask if your sure and a small 4 slot pop-up will appear. Drag the items you want to take into the slots then go on to the next world.

This is only in adventure mode! If you try it in survival, you won't be asked to take inventory stuff with you. You should only have what's on you, all recipe knowledge will go with you along with pre-built non placed items!

How i personaly completed Adventure mode 2 times. The first 2 attempts were total failure (ragemode) cause of the unique difficulty of each world. For example King of the winter,7th day Deerclops pay a visit.Cold reception u have lots of frogs. The game is afoot u need to survive the winter before u mesh with the trap mazes etc.

First thing u need to do is to learn whats goin on in every world  --> http://dont-starve-game.wikia.com/wiki/Adventure
After that what i did the 3rd and 4th time that i run and completed adventure.First world if its "suitable",set a camp, research what u probably gonna need in the next worlds (miner hat, football helmet, crockpot, log suit, lots of tools, survival staff etc),prepare a stack of big jerky and if a world had Walrus spawn stay there for longer time and farm for Tam o Shanter(sanity regen and cold protection) and Walking cane.U cannot imagine how important those 2 items are rly.Collect the items and take with u Shanter,Cane,Jerkystuck,+what u want(like silk stack) and hit the next world.
Second/Third world try to pass it quickly, find items,do some quick prep for the next world and leave.
The 4th world is the most important.Pray that its not King of winter, otherwise u will have some increased difficulty to prepare for the last world.
5th world is total darkness. So prepare
1-food
2-miner hat(u start at swamp so it should be easy to make some net and catch fireflies)
3-walking cane
4-Shanter or whatever u want
If u speed run darkness world u will finish it before 10 days.Last bridge before portal to end u need to pass with very low insanity,so prepare to recharge ur sanity with some cooked green mushrooms.Other things is, there is no plenty food around.

Other tips are, avoid fighting most of the times, learn very well how to survive with each season,be ready for the unexpected. Also learn what each character powers have and use them. Some are less difficult to go,than others like WX-78(consume gears each world, goin stronger) or Wendy's sister will make ur life easier with some fighting or resource farming...

Adventure mode honestly was one of my best gaming experiences seriusly.Totally worth it to beat it....
GL...  ;)
