I have a mechanical pen that's super pointy.

"The pen is mightier than an axe." -Someone intellegent

Try cutting down a tree with a pen. :p

I've got a thrusting sword and a tiny claymore letter opener but I can't get a picture of those right now because lighting. I will also have a longsword that should arrive by Tuesday.

Are you even going to use your pointy things? I mean, I guess you can use those sharp things to eat bacon.

I like that the metal has grain like wood.

That's an actual method of forging.  They bend the metal over and over so it's incredibly strong, and it gives the weapon that awesome look.  Back when swords and axes were the only means of defense, one forged in that fashion was the best weapon around.

No, that's Damascus steel. Originally it was found in the middle east (which is pretty funny since this axe was made and shipped from Pakistan). Today it's pattern welded with a combination of low and high carbon steels, historically made Damascus is unknown for as for the actual process but believed to be of wootz. This specific axe is perfect for performance, 1095 and 15N20 high and low carbon steel with over 200 layers.

Folding the steel is a method from China and Japan, many katanas and "ninja" swords were made in that process. Not nearly as strong as forged steel, but strong enough to hold an edge during combat.

They sell hatchets at walmart (Razor sharp and only 15$ :o )

You don't want hatchets, or ANY axe, to be razor sharp. The edge needs to be just sharp enough to cut. If it is too sharp, the edge will roll upon impact and ruin the blade. Axes take very little to maintain the edge, that is how to ruin it and require to be resharpened.
