The Ruins are too easy.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am currently on day 115 and discovered the bush hat, which basically hides me. So to make a long story short; I went to the Ruins with this hat, some green mush´s, some jerky, some armor and some weapons.

I needed some nightmare fuel and basically what I did was hide near an ancient station, use that bush hat. I saw the red light coming, went down stairs, made myself some tea, came back up and saw that it was calm again. Re-equipped my miner helmet and just gathered the scattered nightmare fuel and just easily farmed two stacks in 15 minutes.

Also, every single Gulper (its called that) and clockwork soldiers are way too easy to handle, aswell as depth worms...just take 3 rock lobsters with you, keep them fed and your only worry is not to run out of light.

My suggestion is to:

A) make the bush hat uncloak you when something comes within a two meter range.

B) make it that the Ancient station light make your insanity drain way more than it is now, since every other light drains sanity, this doesnt. So during the red stage and calming stage you can just hide and wait.

C) make it that Rock Lobsters cannot venture to the Ruins, make them...scared?

That is all I can think of right now...I hope nobody else said this before me, if somebody did..I am sorry, didnt really see it.

Cheers!

A just doesn't make any sense, why would you come out of hiding when something gets close? if anything you'd try and hide more!

B won't make to much of a difference, but will be a welcome addition, if you ask me

C isn't reasonable, klei doesn't limit anything else like this, so why rock lobsters? just because they're strong isn't any reason to ban them from the hardest area in the game.

In any stealth mechanic I know, getting too close reveals you, if you put your face in the bush somebody is hiding in, you wouldn´t notice?

on your second arguement, since it would drain more sanity than usual, you would atleast need to prepare a little more...At the moment I could walk in at day 2 and just farm like hell.

I would like some more constructive critism if you disagree with my points, which can happen.

But I disgress..This is not the main point of my thread, those were some simple ideas to STOP the easy-mode that is currenty The Ruins.
If you have any idea to make the red cycle tougher...I mean for me, I went in with 2 stacks of healing items and went out with...1.80 stack?

I would like to see your viewpoint on The Ruins as I feel that you do not agree with my current statement.

Cheer!

This is not a stealth game.

Also, just because you play like that doesn't mean everybody does. I wouldn't hide and go do something else irl while the cycle ends, I'd keep playing trying to get to the chests.

If you're only point is about farming nightmare fuel, then I'd have to say that you didn't even needed the ruins to do that. You can farm it on the surface with less risks.

The very best I can come up with is making the bush hat not work in the ruins because there's no bushes there to begin with.

man, there is a world settings in the game, so use it, and play as Wes in ruins, that will be much harder.

When bored for me i use next settings:

start season-Winter

spiders-lots

hounds-lots

giants-more

treeguards-more

try it.

@ Plague, I agree that it is not a stealth game, but it does have one stealth mechanic. It´s all about the balance bush hat brings, especially in places like ruins. I know there are easy ways, like dark flower farms, but I think thats more troublesome, I´d rather do something else while getting stacks of nightmare fuel in about 4 minutes...Call me lazy? Bush hat not working there is an option, though I like the idea of just hiding when **** hits the fan and giggling like a little school girl.

@ dimQ, It´s not about being bored, but I am talking about the overall challenge that Ruins offer. Bush Hat just diminishes that challenge, that is all.

Perhaps soon I will play with your settings, with wes.

What is your opinion about Rock Lobsters just smashing stuff down in the Ruins, depth worms and dangling spiders are no problem for them, they easily hold the occupied while I am looting chest after chest. The downside of having those tanks up at the surface is that they breed like nymphomaniac rabbits on viagra. There is no downside of having them down in the ruins.

Cheers!
