Forum regulations

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry but these forum regulations are asinine.

People under 5 posts can't edit their own post....

People under 5 posts can't receive pms....

Probably some other rules I have not encountered yet too.

I'm sorry but this just promotes forum spamming.

Edit: and also annoying, especially because there is no official forum guidline, I spent over 30 minutes trying to figure out how to edit my first post in the forums, only to find some random thread from over 6 months ago mentioning the above facts. Does not help much that the FAQ sub forums do not work either <shrugs>

I've never encountered these rules before XD

I personally believe that it's up to the person if they feel comfortable talking with complete strangers to join this Forum.

Well, when I first joined the forums, i made a mistake and wanted to edit, 30+ min later (closer to an hour) having to use google search, found an old thread stating that you can't if you are under 5 posts.

Just 10 min ago or so I tried to send a pm to someone that only has 2 posts on record, only to be denied.

Granted I think it could do with a little mention. I've only been on here a few days, and the whole "First post needs approval" was expected. I was however bemused by the lack of editing a post - not realizing there was a 5 post minimum.

I however didn't know about the PM's, so thank you.

I rarely join forums, let alone game forums, so I am still a bit rusty, a little tidbit upon registering would be a nice little reminder.

I don't think it encourages spamming though. People know what spamming is, and there is a report button on every post. There are at any given point atleast 5 threads you can contribute to, even if it's the DLC updates saying how excited you are, disagreeing with a suggestion, or even just giving your two cents on how you play. So the 5 post count is hardly restrictive or warranting spam to reach?

oh thats another thing, it took me 6+ hours to get my first post approved, granted it was a sunday but still...

edit: it might have been about 5 hours now that I think about it, it was around 10pm and did not see it until around 3:30am (ish my time, not in US)

Sorry that this was a bit of a pain for you.

Unfortunately the Klei forums have been targeted by spammers quite heavily for a while now. At one point we were regularly receiving 300-700 registrations a day from spam bots. Once that got locked down a bit, they came less frequent but were a bit trickier to catch.

Now, it's not quite so bad, but in order to minimize the impact on everybody here, we had to implement some things like this to keep better control of who gets to affect others here on the forum.

I do think I am going to be getting a little looser on the "5 posts" thing, but for now it keeps spammers from wreaking havoc on our forum users. The PMs are a difficult one, because if I were to lossen that, than somebody can easily use it to harass other members.

Thanks for your feedback though. As I have in the past, when I have the ability too; I will certainly ease restrictions.

Yeah, I can totally understand some of the precautions because of spam bot attacks (having run forums myself in the past)

but a couple of things are just a little odd, like not being able to edit your post or being able to receive pms if under 5 posts.

Also this http://forums.kleientertainment.com/forum/22-dont-starve-faq/ is not working, just loading a blank page, would be nice to have a functioning FAQ so people will not waste a bunch of time as we did at first.
